The Bottom Line Let's have another magical fall, shall we?
Last year in the fall, I hosted a write off to celebrate all things related to Disney. I had such a good time writing and reading the reviews that came in, I've decided to do it again. Now I can hear you already. "But, Mark. Last year, you had such a great excuse with the 80th birthday of Mickey Mouse. What about this year?" I'm glad you asked. In June of this year, Donald Duck turned 75. So we'll make Donald our theme. Anything directly related to Donald Duck will be highlighted once again this year. But as the title says, this is open to anything related to Disney. So if you can justify it as being Disney, it is in. Need some ideas? How about these: Movies - This is an obvious one. Disney has been making movies for years, and any of those will count. Animated, live action, direct to video, made for TV.... You get the picture. (Of course, if the animated movie in question wasn't actually done by Disney, it won't count.) TV - While we're on the subject, remember that Disney creates TV shows, and they air other people's TV shows on ABC, ABC Family, and the Disney Channel. Any show produced by Disney or aired on those three networks counts. Travel - Another easy category. The theme parks and many of their attractions are listed in the database already. Why not spread some love to your favorite. Games - Disney has created video games based on some of their most popular properties and their movies. Those are fair game. Kids and Family - Disney has so many toys and board games, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Music - Disney has launched the career of an artist or two with their record label. And we can't leave out the soundtracks to their films. Books - Disney has a publishing company these days, so those books are in. Plus there are tie ins to some of their TV shows and books based on their movies. Writer's Corner Essay - Want to talk about a memory of Disney? Maybe a trip to the parks or seeing a movie for the first time. Have at it. A Random Reference - I'll use the same example I did last year. Jurassic Park has a great line about Pirates of the Caribbean (the ride). If you run across something like that, by all means it counts. Your Creative Idea - These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I would hate to squelch your creative entry. That just wouldn't be in the spirit of Walt Disney. I'll accept submissions from October 1st until December 31st of 2009. Please link back to this essay in your review and leave a comment or send me an e-mail so I know where to find you. If your review qualifies for more than one write-off, feel free to submit it to both. Want to see what people wrote about last year? Just follow this link. I'm looking forward to reading about all things Disney once again this year. See you around the site. January Update: Thanks for such a great response again this year. I had a lot of fun reading all of your Disney reviews (and writing some of my own.) Look for the third annual edition coming in October. If I don't see you around the sight, I'll see you then.
