The Bottom Line Get more reviews visible to shoppers by making them On Topic
If you have an Off Topic rated review:
I hope the following article will help assist members in getting their reviews out of "Off Topic" or "Not Helpful" status and back into public view. It happens all too often and there's a simple solution which doesn't take much effort on the author's part.
When a shopper or new visitor arrives at Epinions looking for a review on a specific item, product or service, the highest rated content is offered and viewed first. Newer members and those unfamiliar with the site can sometimes post a review in a topic not covering what they're actually reviewing. It is therefore the responsibility of the Epinions members to rate the review accordingly. When a review gets rated "Off Topic" by a majority it then becomes "overall" "Not Helpful" and becomes invisible to outsiders. I'm listing the 2 most common scenarios with solutions....
Q: Why did I receive this rating?
A: Because you didn't write about the exact product listed in the topic listing. Your review has a different model number, year and make of a car or truck then the topic was intended for.
This information can be confusing or conflicting to shoppers so it needs to be corrected as soon as possible.
Q: How can I fix this?
A: If someone gave you the correct listing you can "Move" the review there with a few simple steps. If no link was provided see "No listing available" below.
Instructions:
Copy the link you were given. While logged on to your account go to the reviews page view. Notice the blue lettering near your member ID info: Update | Move | Delete. Now click on the "Move" link. When prompted paste the new link into the empty box, submit, confirm. Now your content is on topic and will help shoppers make a better informed purchasing decision.
There's one more step:
You'll need to notify the members that rated you "Off Topic" and ask them to "take a second look" and re-rate. Most are usually not aware of the changes made unless:
1) You've responded to the comment left by them or you have posted a comment.
2) They have the "Comment Section" set on "alert status". Hopefully you have your site settings (set) to allow email alerts on comments and ratings as well.
Not always but nearly every established member will list an email address on their "Profile page". Just click on the user-name of each member. Some addresses are hidden or in-code to help prevent unwanted mail. Be sure and include "Epinions" in the subject and include the reviews "URL" in the message.
No listing available:
If there is not a topic listing available for your review you need to contact the "CL" or CategoryLead that covers the particular topic you're in. Your product will need to be added to the database by filling out a http://home.earthlink.net/~hghotlist/epsap.html or "Suggest a Product" form. The new listing will be emailed to you soon. Depending on the product most of my requests have usually taken a day or so, sometimes longer. You can also try a google search to help find the product or service in the database. Go to google and simply type in the product name then add epinions to the end. Works for me half the time.
