The Bottom Line Because the world is so damn mean

So it came to pass that October day
That it was no longer time to play
When I went with some buddies to teach a lesson
One that this kid would never forget
Poured on the alcohol
Whipped out the lighter
Stood around watching as the flames rose higher
The sound I heard was the sound of laughter
The laughter of my classmates as the skin crispened and burned
In the fire we started an innocence lost
In the fire of hell a soul does die
In the fire of hell sometimes redemption is found
But we don’t yet know whether this is here or there
Now a young man lies wounded
Irreparably scarred
And me and four buddies
Have had our lives altered forever
As I live through the years
With knowledge of this despicable barbarism
Many people will ask
“Why did you do that?”
I will say
“Because the world is so damn mean”
