Why I'll Wait
Oct 18 '09
The Bottom Line While I mainly wrote this as a stand-alone piece, it could also be considered a sequel to "I Don't Want You" (link on my profile).
Liars Fakes Hypocrites Cheaters Loose women in tight clothes
Antics of the undeservedly rich and totally infamous Splashed all over the glossy pages Bad lessons and invalues, trickling down to Impressionable young bodies and minds Who can’t soak it up fast enough
Life isn’t imitating art anymore It’s imitating bad habits, bad behaviour But this isn’t about blame It’s about a search For someone who sees it all for How shallow it really is
Someone who rises above Who knows pop culture because it’s unavoidable But cares about things on a much deeper scale
“I am not as pretty as those girls in magazines”, sings Shirley Manson But those girls have personalities as thin as the pages they’re printed on
Openness Honesty Integrity Dignity Class Free-thinking SELF-RESPECT
These are qualities I’m looking for I won’t go near a girl without them It’s not about being high and mighty - I know I’m not perfect It’s about seeing what’s really meaningful, and staying away from what isn’t
I don’t see a relationship as a race to the bedroom It’s an adventure, starting with an attraction, That soon develops an emotional attachment One that, when you’re truly lucky, becomes an unbreakable bond
I haven’t found her yet, and I don’t know when or how I will But I know it will happen, and will be worth the wait That’s enough to keep me away from meaningless relationships
The one who is worth it will get everything I have to give And everything I have ever had to give I won’t waste Money Time Energy Love Myself On anyone who subscribes to a shallow way of life Who sees the world for what it is But doesn’t look for what it could or should be
Life is deep. Multi-faceted. All-encompassing.
So is love.
Lust has none of that It’s ruling the world But it won’t rule me
That’s why I’ll wait
