Ah, Mike, I read your article about why you still don't own a front loader, and saw a statement that you were once, as young lad, intrigued by the myterious powers of a front loader. But, you have since 'seen the light' and have gone shopping at the scratch and dent piles to pick up your inexpensive, easy-to-maintain top loading GE washer. (Must say I loved the article!) I will agree that you probably wouldn't benefit much from the efficiencies of a front loader.
However, I have to take a more global examination of the situation, and I can't help but think that if a greater number of people were more conscious about their water and energy use, the small amount that each individual/family saved would greatly reduce demands on our stressed water supplies, wastewater treatment plants and power grid.
That said, I have maintained my childhood intrigue in the front loaders (we had one when I was a wee little lad). My mom can tell you of the story of when I was two and "helped" her do laundry by removing a clean load from the washer and piling it on the floor!
Having a front loader has made wash day much more pleasant, despite the added maintenance. It really has become second nature, and most of it takes very little time to do.
For you next machine, think about a FL...Your childhood intrigue may come back for them!
Thanks for the positive comments.

This is the best "general advice about front-loaders" Epinion I've yet read, and it fully merits (at least) a "Very Helpful" rating.
However, when this now and again "lazy" bachelor scrutinized certain subsections of (especially) your main sections #8, 9, 11, 14 and 15, he sighed/shuddered at the very thought of his relatively "simpler" $249 GE top-loader biting the proverbial dust someday. Oh, I won't deny that modern front-loaders collectively do boast certain advantages over conventional top-loaders (and are the obvious trend-setters in 21st-century clothes-washing technology), but I also can't deny that my life is a bit simpler and more carefree with my trusty, "forgiving" top-loader (with its rather conventional agitator). [Admittedly, water is dirt-cheap where I happen to reside; and I don't "do" nearly as many loads per week as typical large families. Moreover, I can get by using either cold or warm (not necessarily downright hot) water--not that I've actually noticed any alarming degree of difference in the dollar amount of my monthly gas-heating bill whenever I have opted to set my top-loader's water temp all the way to "hot."]
In any case, I salute your obvious savvy; I congratulate you on your ongoing success with your particular front-loader; and I look forward to more marvelous Epinions by you! :-)

I need more friends who give out advice like you have given! This is a wonderfully helpful and well written piece. I sure hope I remember to read it when my top-loading Amana ever bites the dust.
Best,
Jennifer
