After receiving an email from Barnes & Noble advertising a After Holiday Clearance -- Save 50% or More in Stores and Online promising "massive" savings, I began shopping at barnesandnoble.com and found a well priced SLR camera. The day following my order, I noticed on my account page that my order was unable to process, and therefore, I contacted B&N at the number provided, as well as the number for B&N customer service. I was disconnected 3 separate times and was placed on hold for over an hour. Ultimately, I was advised by 3 employees in the audit department and 1 employee in customer service that my camera would ship (repeat calls were necessary because the audit department could not resolve problems with improper shipping charges and calls to customer service were being automatically routed to the audit department). Notwithstanding repeated representations by four different employees that my order was delayed but would be fulfilled, I received a poorly worded email last night stating that B&N was "unable" to fulfill my order due to an alleged "price error". More than 3 days later, Barnes & Noble's charge in the amount of $347.18 is still pending on my credit card. I am truly outraged by Barnes & Noble's complete and utter disregard for its customers. Moreover, I find it hard to believe it was truly an honest pricing mistake considering the number of cameras that were half off (some, not all), the fact that B&N took orders and enjoyed increased traffic to its site for 12+ hours before correcting the alleged pricing mistakes, and its employees were repeatedly representing to customers that the items would be shipped once they were able to catch up on processing orders. The cancellation email falsely states that they were "unable" to fulfill the order ("unwilling" perhaps but not "unable") and had an obvious typographical error. B&N's belated explanation and refusal to honor its orders is at best disingenuous, and feels more like a high tech version of classic bait and switch. This has been not only a huge frustration, but also a complete waste of my time. For the sake of other customers, I hope that Barnes & Noble either gets its act together, or simply stops selling online.
