Your experience in Jerusalem reminded me of my own pilgrimage to the wall, in 1987. I would be flabbergasted if one could visit and not well up with emotion. I agree with your statement that the Israelis truly made the desert blossom.
I could say about a thousand more words about the emotions I felt while reading your essay, but I'll let a single tear speak for itself.

The account of your excursions has been my favorite part of getting up in the morning; totally fascinating. Especially today’s, very touching. I am developing a craving to dive into the history of the area. I look forward to tomorrow morning!
