Holiday gifts that I would recommend

Nov 03 '09

The Bottom Line There is so much out there, cheap or expensive. Hand made goes over big. The possiblities are endless.

This is a hard recommendation for me to write. There are so many great things out there that one could buy for another this holiday season. I have most of my Christmas shopping done at this point. I look for deals all year round and save the items that I buy for Christmas. I still have a few to go. But hopefully the list of things that I chose may be helpful to some one else as well. Keep in mind that I am big on bargain shopping. I have a lot of people to buy for so I try to get some thing they will like, some thing nice but some thing that won't break the bank.

For my daughter Emmily this was easy. She likes Fashion Fever Barbie so I looked on Ebay and found a lot sale four for only $15.00 with shipping and handling new in the box. I also bought her Crayola Color Wonder Tinker Bell and Disney Princess books since she is a fan of those characters and drawing. Amongst the many gifts she will be getting is the biggest one she asked for which was the Caring Corners doll house. I got away with this one cheap. I bought the house for $69.99 at Toys R Us and had my mother, soon to be mother in law, brother and one of my sisters each get her 2 doll/furniture sets for it instead of buying costly gifts for her like the often do. They got away with it cheaper and got more for the money and so did I. Because she will open the house on Christmas morning and the doll and furniture sets that evening at the family get together!

For Bret my toddler I bought 2 Character pillow people from the Yo Gabba Gabba series. A set of Yo Gabba Gabba walkie talkies, and amongst his favorite Yo Gabba Gabba toys will be his main toy. This is one he saw in the store and went nuts over. I never buy some thing that costs this much but could not resist. Kota the dinosaur!

For Christopher my 12 year old I bought a Nintendo WII with the sports games to go with it. I also bought him a winter jacket that is Steelers his/our favorite team ever. And I bought him simple gifts like scarf/hat and gloves. Clothing for school and so on. He is big on drawing as well so I got him an art set too.

For my mother and mother in law I bought the easiest things I could think of. This would be Foxwoods gift certificates for both the bingo and food court. This was because both of them do Sunday Bingo there every single week with out fail. I knew this gift would be perfect for both of them. For my mother I also made her an oil portrait of my kids. I couldn't resist. It was for her, but I had fun doing it so it was good for me too.

For my step dad and father in law.  Alright these ones may seem a bit bad. In fact they are not habits I should support, however if they are going to spend their money on it anyway why not buy them what they like? I got my soon to be father in law four cartons of cigarettes. My step father I will be buying bottles of wine for because he is an every day wine drinker and loves all sorts of it.

My fiance was easy. Steelers, Steelers and more Steelers, a cup, hat, jacket and framed signed picture bought from Ebay very cheap.

My neices and nephews were pretty cheap too. I was able to buy them all Crayola Color wonder paint and marker books. I bough Aqua Doodles for all of them and flash cards. They are all on the young side so this was done at Walmart. They each got four things and I spent under $100.00 on all together.

What my kids do for others is a whole different story. They like to paint pictures, make hand prints, make necklaces and stuff out of macaroni and things of that nature. It always seems that the gifts that they make get more attention then the ones that I buy for people. I wish I could just make every thing and get the same reaction!

That is all I have bought so far. Christmas is an all out Holiday for me. I like to buy gifts. I hate getting them though. Some people are shy when accepting a gift and I am one of them. My kids always pull together and make a giant card for me. That is one of the best things that I get every year. My mother always buys me socks lol. I know it sounds odd but it has been that way since I was a child and to be honest I would be disappointed at this point not to get them. Slipper socks are fun to get. I love slipper socks. I give them to everyone too. They cost a dollar at most department stores and they can show that you are thinking of the person even though it is a cheap gift to give.
