Glad to see (Reply to this comment)

The Bone Collector on there ... I was thinking this was going to be a list of really old movies, and I don't watch many of those ...

I don't think I've ever seen "Jennifer Eight". Sounds intriguing. I'll have to seek it out and see how it stacks up against my current faves.
I appreciate the recommendation!

a detective-focused "whoddunit" kind of film
In that case, I recommend 1992's "Jennifer Eight", a superb serial-killer thriller with oodles of great atmosphere.

That's an interesting comment! I wonder why I DON'T have any women detectives on the list. Aside from Agatha Christie's Miss Marple character, I can't even THINK of any truly strong female detective characters, much as I'd like to. Do you have some examples of good detective movies with female leads ???

I love Dirty Harry too, but given Callahan's "man of action" character, I view those movies more as "cop thrillers" than I do as "detective movies" (he's not a guy who solves mysteries by pondering subtle details...) ;-)

Lots of good taste you've shown, but where are the women detectives? I do love Bogie and that Lincoln Ryme movie even if Jolie's in it.

Ten Best Detectives (Reply to this comment)

I really enjoyed your list of the ten best detective movies. I really liked "Murder On The Orient Express". I thought it was really good. I also liked "Dial M For Murder".

It's been a long time since I've seen Sharkey's Machine, but I recall it being more of a "cop thriller" type movie than a detective-focused "whoddunit" kind of film. I'll have to watch it again.
Appreciate the comments!

I initially passed by "The Bone Collector" as well, but when I finally saw it (on cable), I was impressed at how entertaining it really was. I'll be interested to hear your impressions.
Thanks for the comment!

I was surprised to see this on your list. I've always passed it over. It has now been added to my Blockbuster queue. Thanks.

I would recommend you see Sharky's Machine sometime, just to round out your viewing. That one is pretty dang good and has a few nice pics of young Rachel Ward that set me to barking like a hound dog! ;>

Some great movies (Reply to this comment)

But no Clouseau? Leaving him off the list is like Pete Rose not making the Hall of Fame. I'd better get working on my own list.
Ha - nice job by the way
