The Bottom Line What are your thoughts re: December 21, 2012?  The end of the world as we know it?  Just another day? or Something somewhere in-between? Express them in this Write-Off!

December 21, 2012...

There's quite a bit being said about this date (a date not all that far off) these days.

Would you believe that this single calendar day even has its own website--one that even includes (as of this writing on Tuesday, November 10, 2009) its very own countdown clock that times the arrival of "this moment in time" right down to the very second!?!

Here's the url for the website

http://www.december212012.info/

which is worth checking out no matter what you might believe about what people are saying.

My take--and not just my personal opinion, but right from the words of Jesus!--is that, if this countdown clock (and what some believe about this day) turns out to be right-on-the-head, it will only be a coincidence and not because anybody here on earth really has a pipeline to God re: this matter.

Here are the instructions for this W/O.

Let's get the no-no's out of the way first:

1.  This W/O is not to be used as a platform for promoting/glorifying racism, hatred towards target groups of people (based on such things as religion, sexual preferences, etc.), violence, devil-worship, or blasphemy, even though any or all of those can be part of a story that's being told.

2.  This W/O is NOT to be used as a vehicle to taunt, bully, or slander others.

The above pretty much covers the no-no's.

Other than that, the rules for this W/O are pretty broad.

1.  You can write as many Epinions as you want to in any genre (e.g. fiction, non-fiction, product review, poetry, etc.).

However, these Epinions must, in some way, pertain to December 21, 2012.  I'll be making suggestions a little later in this message in order to get you started.

2.  Whenever you have one finished, go to the comment section that goes with this Epinion and share the url to it.

3.  Make sure that you copy and paste the following message either as part of the body of your Epinion(s) or else in the bottom line portion of the same:

This Epinion has been written as part of The MOA 12/21/12 W/Os.  Go here for details: http://tinyurl.com/ylo6bab

4.  Although there's a good chance that I'll be accepting new submissions even after that, try to get them to me between now and January 1, 2010 (which just happens to be the tenth anniversary of when the changing of the first number in the year from one to two was supposed to throw us into unimaginable chaos).

In the meantime, I'm going to be putting together a blog that will be visible to the public starting on New Year's Day 2010 or a day or two after that.

The blog will be very attractive and will contain links to the various W/O entries that I hope will be getting created.  I think you'll be pleased with its overall appearance.

Once the blog becomes visible to the public, a link to it will be displayed on my profile page.

Finally, here are some ideas (and you don't need to limit yourself to these) for entries in this W/O.

Fiction:

1. Write a story (can be done in first, second, or third person) about a time period that can take in any part (or even all) of the time period that begins a week before December 21, 2012 and goes through a week beyond that.  It can cover major changes that take place during that time, minor changes, or no changes at all.

2. Write a story taking place ten years after December 21, 2012 of somebody looking back on that time from December 21, 2022 (or from whatever calendar date or the like is equivalant to this date) to tell someone who either wasn't born back then or else was too young to remember what it was like about how things were way back then and how this affects how he/she (the storyteller) looks at life now (as in "now" being ten years after December 21, 2012).

Nonfiction:

1.
Write an essay about various dates/time periods in history when the world was supposed to have ended but it didn't.

2.  Pick an actual event, time period, or day that you might have lived through when the world was supposed to have ended and/or things were supposed to have changed significantly and write about your memories of it.  Some examples might be:

March 10, 1982 when all of the planets lining up was supposed to have brought on the end of the world

January 1, 2000 when technological connections were supposed to go awry and throw all parts of the civilized world into chaos

3.  If somebody older in your family such as a parent or grandparent (or a non-related person who has lived a considerable amount of years more than you have) can remember a time such as mentioned in option #2, ask them about it and, then, share what they tell you in an Epinion.

4.  Write something that gives your opinion to the answer of the following question:

"Do you think that there's a connection between some of the random acts of violence that are taking place in our society and December 21, 2012?"

5.
If there is, indeed, a doomsday that is set to take place on December 21, 2012, is it something that is set in cement, and there's nothing we can do to change things? or Is it still not too late to change the course of the future?  If the answer is "Yes!  We can change things to prevent this from happening!"  what do we need to do to re-write the script, so to speak?  Share your thoughts on this.

Poetry/Song Lyrics:

1.  Write a 12/21/12-related poem of any style.  It can be rhyming or unrhyming and can be anything from a short poem such as a haiku or cinquain to a long one written in the style of an epic storyteller.

2.  Write about one or more aspects of 12/21/12 in parody-style.  This can be either a parody of a song or a poem.  Also, share a copy of the original poem/lyrics, but be sure to give credit to the writer(s)/performer(s).

Product Reviews:

1.
Write about any product that you can, in some way, make 12/21/12-related (e.g. reviewing a generator that might come in handy in case of a disaster, doing a book review of a handbook for surviving  a major disaster).

2.  Do a top-ten list of books, movies, etc. that are related to a certain subject that might relate to 12/21/12 (e.g. catastrophy movies such as The Day After, the Left Behind books).

Now that I've given you some ideas on how to get started, it's up to you to take it from there...
