I have shopped at the Sears.com twice. That is pretty much all it took for me to see that it was not the place for me. Although I love the actual Sears store, this did not turn out to be what I wanted it to be in an on line store.
~What Sears.com sells~
Sears.com offers a wide variety of items. They have home goods, bedding, small and large appliances, electronics, televisions, computers, lap tops, clothing for all ages and genders, office supplies, school supplies, jewelry, wall art, and shoes. They have out door items such as patio furniture, grills, grill utensils, lawn mowers and much more. To list them all would take forever. The selections are great and plentiful, so that is a plus.
~Prices~
As far as pricing goes. The Sears.com site sells everything at a fair to cheap price. They do not charge crazy high amounts for pretty much anything. Although I would say that some of their home computer prices are slightly high. Other than that I would count them as fair over all. The shipping costs are fair as well, however they do vary depending on which shipping speed you choose to use. If you ordered using a three day shipping option obviously it would be considerably more money than to order using standard shipping. But this is hardly diffrent from any other store that offers various speeds of shipping.
~Placing orders, payment options and site use~
Shopping on the Sears.com site is certainly not a challenge to do. They offer decent text, great pictures to view the items you are interested in and they have no moving banners, flashy ads or pop ups to interfere with your shopping experience. These are always important qualities in a web site that I choose to shop with.
The site has a search bar and many categories that you can browse. It is simple enough to find the item you are looking for and add that to your cart. When ready, you go to your cart adn do the check out from there. You have to have your billing address and shipping address ready. Enter your payment method and shipping speed choice. Then finish placing the order. It is that easy.
As far as payment methods go, you will more than likely have to see the total options for yourself. I can't remember them all off hand. I do know that they accept debit, most major credit cards, and some thing called bill me later. Honestly I know nothing about that, but I saw that they offered that option when I checked out both times.
~What I ordered, customer service, shipping and packaging~
Here is where my down fall comes in. The first order I placed was for a GPS by Tom Tom. This was the only item in the order. The charges were fine, price was great but the shipping. Well, let me explain. I placed the order using standard shipping. I received a shipping confirmation email that stated my item had shipped a few days later. I waited two weeks which seems slightly long for shipping a small item. Then I email Sears. They say the item was shipped but the confirmation was sent to early, it had not shipped on the original day they had said. So this would make my item late.
Of course they acted fine with me, and I was in no rush really at the time so I said that was fine and let it go. I waited for another 3 weeks, and still no GPS. It was at this time that I contacted them again this time by phone. The woman I spoke with "Susanne" stated that I had already contacted them about this issue and it was marked resolved. I explained that it is not resolved if I have no received my item yet. I was not rude in any way with her, but she proceeded to tell me "If you keep pushing me I will hang up the phone!" in a very rude tone. I said "Look, I just want to know where the item is, exactly when it shipped and when I will get it." she again had a rude attitude and then abruptly hung up on me when I asked to speak with a supervisor.
Moving on, I emailed the company again, the person seemed to be ok but told me that I had to cancel and replace the order. The other order would be credited and the new one charged. I would still get the sale price. At this point I placed the second order. This time I still chose the same GPS but also added a drill set that was on sale.
~My final experience and recommendation~
I did receive the items this time. They came with in 7 business days. I did not see that as too bad. It was average speed. The Gps screen was cracked and the drill bits inside of the package were broken/bent. They packaged the outer part of the box with very little bubble wrap and nothing in between the gps or drill set. I had to go crazy to return the items and it took almost a month to get the refund price as well as I had to cut my losses on the cost of the return shipping for the items.
In a nut shell, although this site is easy to order from and has great prices. I will never shop with them again. the customer service over the phone was awful, the one through the first email was misleading and the items were both broken. They will certainly never recieve my business again, and of course I do not recommend shopping with them.
