Death of a Snowman

The Bottom Line Snow fades, snow melts, everything goes away after a while, right?

We'll see how this works......

We just got our biggest snow here in a few years..(and that's saying something when we get 3 inches of snow..)....and to celebrate the occasion, one of my friends decided to build a snowman in the front yard.  No, he wasn't that tall, but he was there to stand out and be proud.....that was, until early this morning when someone literally took their car and drove right over him.  Snow-murder.  Vehicular snow-slaughter......voluntary snow-slaughter.  Snowmicide.... ..assisted snowicide... which one was it?

Snow flurries continue to pile up outside, but who cares anymore?  My snowman is gone.  The one thing Mom knew I loved...and by God, she's not here anymore...and now they take my snowman?  What else is there?  I'm fuming inside.  Hot enough to boil water.  But then, I best be careful, lest I accidentally get burned.

So I guess I have to write a poem instead...to my friend...who was born yesterday, and died today.  Such a short life...but, friend, you enjoyed your time here.  We'll get justice, one way or another.

***DEATH OF A SNOWMAN***

You sat out in the front yard, strong and packed high,
You didn't have many adornments; no eyes or corn-cob pipe,
But you were special to me, you made me love, long, and sigh..
Amidst the rest of the snow, a definite unique stripe....

You were only thirteen....well...thirteen degrees born,
But now you're melted and plowed over from a disastrous car.
Perhaps the killers wailed in joy and waylaid their jubilous horn,
But I'm not through yet.......I'll have you rebuilt before morn!

Well, I'm actually kind of tired....tired of most of it all....
Tired of throwing energy down and watching it melt away,
Tired of scooping you up and forming you into that perfect ball,
But perhaps my energy will wake up vibrant, once again....one day.

Time will only tell, but I know we're not gone altogether,
Because I dont' give up that darn easy.  I never have, you know.
So I'll just lay down and dream of us together, forever,
Where nobody can destroy us and our beautiful snow.
-------------------------------------------

Here's to hoping you and each of yours can enjoy this peaceful winter (for the most part,) without snowmen homicides.
