The Bottom Line The Michael L. Printz Award is presented annually to the previous year's most distinguished Young Adult author. These are links to the winner and honor book reviews at Epinions.
The Michael L. Printz Award recognizes "literary excellence in young adult literature" and is sponsored through the American Library Association's booklist. Books were first awarded in 2000 and this award was named after Michael L. Printz, a school librarian, high school teacher, and advocate for quality young adult literature. Books are selected by a committee on the basis of being the best, "in terms of literary merit," young adult books for the previous year. Up to four honor books can be identified for one year. This list will be updated each year and kept pinned to the top of the Children's Section in the Books Message Boards. Some of the books lack reviews. Please consider using this as a guide for selecting quality Young Adult books and then reading and reviewing those that are lacking reviews or any of the other books on this list. If you do provide a review, please contact me and I'll remove the "no reviews" designation. Where it's possible to select for an author, that author also has a link. It's my theory that most of these authors have also contributed other books of quality. (A few authors seem to share names with many other writers and they do not have links--I recommend conducting your own search.) 2012 WINNER Where Things Come Back by John Corey Whaley HONOR BOOKS Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler The Returning by Christine Hinwood Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater *If you want to review any of these books, let me know and I'll add them to the database. 2011 WINNER Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi (no reviews) HONOR BOOKS Stolen by Lucy Christopher Please Ignore Vera Dietz by A.
