The Bottom Line We feel like the luckiest parents in the world to finally have a child to love and to be called mommy and daddy.

Many of you asked me to keep you updated on our adoption pursuit.
It's been a few years - and i found myself back on Epinions - and asked myself why i hadn't returned sooner. I enjoy writing - but i guess i got myself caught up with other things.

As for my adoption dream - i just about gave up after so many heart breaking incidents. Between fertility failures and being matched with young birth moms that changed their mind at the last minute - our dream finally came true.

It's actually a lovely story.

My husband Tony & I had been trying for a child of our own. After years of let downs - we finally decided to adopt. We signed up thru the State of Florida, followed all the requirements (MAPP Class training, CPR, home study, etc.) Nothing seemed to be happening.
We were than put in touch thru some mutual friends with a young sixteen year old that was pregnant by her nineteen year old boyfriend. We started paying birth mom expenses thru our adoption attorney and getting to know her. We took her places and spent time with her getting to know her. I took her to all of her doctors appointments, got to see the ultrasound/sonograms. Two months before she was due - she changed her mind. I was devestated.
She asked if i could return the crib and all of the baby stuff that was given to her - that she had passed on to us.

We drove over to her house and i wouldn't get out of the truck cause i was so upset. I left there crying and said to my husband - "We'll never have a baby to love". He said - "Yes, baby - we'll have one eventually."

That night we went out to celebrate my 4oth birthday with family & friends at Bahama Breeze. On the way home - we decided to take the scenic route home and drive along the gulf waters. 3/4 way home my cell phone rang - and a girl was crying on the other end. It was an ex-coworker's daughter. She said - "Do you know who this is?" Do you know why i'm calling?" I said "No, calm down - what's wrong?"
There was a baby screaming at the top of his lungs in the background. I said "What's wrong with the baby?" She said "Come get him - I can't do this anymore". My heart started beating so fast.
I asked her where her mom was and her grandparents (who she lived with) I asked her why the baby was screaming crying. She told me he was hungry and she had no formula. Her grandfather left and went and got him some. We turned the car around and headed toward where she lived - which was an hour or so away. I felt like it took forever to get there. After arriving - we went into a bedroom and sat and talked with the birthmom and she was mature enough to tell us what she wanted for her child and that she wasn't able to provide a life for him like what she wanted. She said she knew how badly we wanted a child and that she trusted that we would be able to give him the life she couldn't. She asked us to promise her two things.
One was to not change his name and two was to keep it an open adoption so she could see him. We agreed to both! Her rights were terminated a few days later and the birth father soon after.

Our adoption dreams finally came true! We now have a beautiful baby boy. We have had him since he was five months old and he is now three years old. He is the greatest blessing ever! We never knew we could love somebody so much!
