The Bottom Line "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans. John Lennon. Shot in the back. Very sad."--Judd Hirsch

"Well, hello everyone. Are we already started?" Lisa asked with an almost sing-songy attitude.

"Yes. Where were you?" Chase asked.

"Oh, Cuddy had some crap to say and I had to get all sterile for the party. Do you want me to come in here and drop a hair in the soup?" Lisa kidded.

"The soup is a 53 year old man." Chase said. Lisa walked over to the rest of the group and studied what Chase had already done.

"Well, looks like I missed the rib spredders." Lisa kidded. "Isn't his pulse a little fast?"

"He's in heart surgery. What do you expect?" Chase said.

"A lower pulse. He gets any higher he's going to flat line." Lisa said looking over the rest of the machinery.

"He's not going to flatline." Chase defended himself.

"Ok then his heart will explode. If you say so. How many bipasses?" Lisa asked.

"Four." Chase said concentrating on his work.

"Why'd you want me to stand in?" Lisa asked.

"To see how the pros do it." Chase kidded.

"Ha. Ha. How funny. Something doesn't look right. Oh, well. Why don't you guys have a Cardialogy wing in this hospital?" Lisa asked.

"We all practice what is necessary." Chase said.

"You don't even have a Peds unit." Lisa said.

"So, what are you saying? I'm not fully equipped to do this surgery?" Chase defended himself.

"No. I was just wondering. Dr. Kildare." Lisa kidded.

She didn't know that in the shadows of the theater a shadow watched every move and listened to every word. It watched as Lisa joked with the doctors, mainly the one called Chase.

"Whoa. Didn't see that coming." Lisa joked then gasped as the man went into cardiac arrest. She stood and watched as the team worked on him. She wasn't helping because it wasn't her thing to do. The man wasn't responding. "I know this doesn't seem like the time or place, but does this guy have a family?"

"Wife and four kids, all at home. Do you want to write his biography?" Cameron almost shouted.

Lisa took a deep breath and shoved everyone out of the way. She put her hands in the guy's chest and held his heart in her hands. She concentrated hard while the others shouted their protests. Lisa drew in a breath and a strange blue glow formed around her arms. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as the man's chest began to close Slowly she withdrew her arms and as she did the chest closed more and more. When her hands were completely out the man's chest was healed. All of his vital signs were normal. All that kept him from waking up was the anesthetic.

"How...uh...how to we explain that?" Chase stuttered. The only evidenece that his chest had been open was the blood on Chase and Lisa's arms. Lisa didn't say a word and turned and left the room. She hurried to the locker room to clean up.

The figure in the theater still watched. It was amazed and confused.

"Are you a doctor?" Cuddy said as she came into the theater. She turned the lights on. She only came up there when she heard the commotion about the suddenly healed man.

"No, ma'am. I just knew one of the people down there." He said.

"Then leave. Now!" Cuddy demanded. She didn't even stop to see if the man had left. She hurried down to the locker room before Lisa could escape. "What the hell did you do?!"

"I healed a man. Got a problem with healing?" Lisa asked.

"Yes, as a matter of fact I do when it's done in such a way as to make a hospital look bad. This is not the extent of your ablities I was interested in. How the hell am I going to explain this?!"

"Tell his family you were wrong." Lisa said. She tossed her dirty gown into the basket.

"Wrong?! Wrong?! Hords of tests and consultations just to tell he and his family we were mistaken?! 'Oh, Daddy never was sick. He was just pretending.' And we pretended right along to get the money from the surgery." Cuddy protested.

"I don't have to stay. YOU asked ME to come here. I only came because you said you were short a doctor. You can get any monkey off the street to do this job. Want me gone? I'm out faster that Bugs Bunny can recieve mail." Lisa said with a bit of anger. Cuddy hung her head.

"Come to my office. I need to talk to you some more." Cuddy said a little more calm. She turned and left leaving Lisa confused.

Lisa walked into Cuddy's office and sat down in the chair she was just in over an hour ago. She leaned back and got comfortable waiting for Cuddy to start the conversation. Cuddy looked at Lisa's  blood stained sleeves, but didn't comment.

"I...I'm sorry for the way I talked to you earlier. I know what you can do and I know you like to see good people healed. It just took me by surprise, but then it would any other doctor. I know you and it shocked me." Cuddy said trying smooth things over.

"No need for the drama show. I just want to know one thing. Do I stay or go? I have a lot of things in my life I could be tending to. It seems like all I've done since I showed up this morning is p*ss you off." Lisa said.

"I'm sorry for that. I know you're under a lot of pressure right now. I'm sorry for that, too. I'm sorry I added to it." Cuddy said.

"Well, do I stay or go?" Lisa said sternly.

"I really need you to stay. I am short handed. Since it's been a long time since you've seen House I also figured you'd like to meet him and get re-aquainted." Cuddy said.

"Don't have to. I'm the reason House is like he is." Lisa said. Cuddy sat back in her chair.

"What? When did you know House at first? You said you hadn't known him that long." Cuddy asked confused.

"I was teaching a couple of seminars at Johns Hopkins when House was in early med school. He was a shy, withdrawn skinny little thing. I just saw something in him that was special, so I offered to tutor him as if he needed it. He welcomed the help because no one was paying attention to him. He wasn't one to reach out either. I taught him everything I could think of. He was getting happier and happier. But the dam broke when I left the tutoring room to get a book. Some bully came in to bother him. He was a lot bigger than Greg. I came in and asked the jerk if he wanted to fight someone who could fight. He told me in a 'sweet' way to mind my own business. He also renamed be bi&ch. I flew into him in a New York minute. He was begging for mercy when the security guards arrived. They thanked me and took the guy with them in cuffs. Greg was flabbergasted. He couldn't stop asking questions. That's when I taught him how to put people down with words. I taught him a few moves that he could use in case someone started a fight if I wasn't there, but there was no problem in that. He was like my shadow after that. We got separated when he was finished with the two seminars I was teaching. And that's that." Lisa said. She tapped the arms of her chair waiting for a response.

"You taught him how to be a son of a b*tch?" Cuddy said in disbelief.

"Yep. He's my art work. The only thing I regret is not being there when his leg blew out. I never even sent him a card I was so ashamed. I could have helped him. I could have." Lisa said looking off in the distance.

"Wow, that's something....wait a minute. How could you have already been a doctor when House was in med school?" Cuddy asked.

"Oops. It's the age thing again. Damn. If I'm not careful the whole world is going to know." Lisa said more to herself.

"You lied, didn't you?" Cuddy said with a sinister sound to her voice.

"No, I didn't. I didn't make it up to get your mind off of what I've done or anything. I guess I owe you the rest of my life story. Maybe it will help you understand a few things. All I have is time if you do, too." Lisa said. Cuddy got up and locked her office doors she also pulled the blinds, so no one would look in. She sat back down at her desk.

"Well, spill it." Cuddy said bracing for a real good story.
