Pros: Price, good scans
Cons: Software
The Bottom Line: I returned this scanner and bought a Hewlett Packard 4400c for a little more money and it is a much better scanner.

I returned this scanner after using it for several days. The image quality was quite good, but the software is awful.
Installation required me to install about 250 megs of software that I would never use {phote editing, album management etc} and the Smart {?} Panel window keeps popping up unannounced for no apparent reason. Closing it will only cause it to pop back up later. Making a scan sometimes makes it disappear when you need it. After unistalling the Epson software using the control panel uninstall in Windows, I lost my sound in other programs and I am getting some fatal Windows errors.
Besides being a little slow to scan, the scanner did perform well. I would advise using some other software to drive it, and throw away the CD that comes with it. If you have the time and the knowledge to set up your own drivers, and use it with your own software, this could be a great scanner for the money. If you want a no-hassle scanner that installs and works the way it should right out of the box, this might be a poor choice.
The big green light on the scanner never goes off, not a big deal.
I don't think Epson put much thought into this scanner, but for the price, with a little work, it could do the job.
