Pros:Detects cameras, scanners and what-not.
Cons:The drivers! Updating those drivers...
The Bottom Line: If you can handle computers well (heck, even if you can't), XP is a choice.
I'm not one to be "hip" to the latest operating system. I didn't buy Windows 95 only after about a year, when a friends said that the price was too high and would go down. (However, when I bought it, it was only $10 cheaper.)
But XP intrigued me. I liked the way it looked: sleek and... different. Windows 98 and 95 were too technical, XP showed a bit more flare and style.
The best part: No DOS booting. When I first loaded XP for the first time, it was actually fast. I liked that.
Then came the hard part. Drivers. I have about a THOUSAND USB items, such as webcams and such. I had to update the drivers on all of them. Some were easy to find, some not. Anyway, it was a pain.
When I got my webcam and scanner upgraded, I loved the way XP put my camera as a seperate drive. I could view them on the cam and then take off the ones I want - without third-party software. That's a great feature. (Although the uploading feature is dumb; why no FTP uploading?)
XP was worth upgrading. I haven't decided to switch back to Windows 98 - I find that XP is finally a useful Windows improvement.
