A Kiss To Remember Forever?

The Bottom Line When you kiss your spouse goodbye, remember it could be your last kiss together.

About three hours ago, I sent my husband off to work.  I lay on the bed as he finished dressing and talked to him just about anything that was interesting.  I hugged him, and squeezed him, and looked deeply into his eyes with great love.

And when I kissed him after he went out of the door, I made sure to tell him that I loved him, because I do love him dearly.

Each and every time I am with him, I let him know that he is the most important person in my life next to God.  I do this because in this world we have no idea what will happen from one moment to the next, and especially with my husband’s occupation, it could be that last kiss, that last twinkling of our eyes together could potentially be the last moment that we share together.

My husband is a deputy sheriff, and he works at the courthouse protecting the public and the judges and other staff.  And while most would think that is a pretty safe job for a law enforcement officer, in this world I know that is not true.

Just five years ago, a gunman killed a judge and two others in a courthouse in Atlanta. The courthouse had security measures, but even those measures failed.  I actually work at a courthouse too, and I’ve seen altercations in the courthouse where we had to call for security because of violence and such.  So, I am not immune from this as well.

So, when I kiss my husband good bye in the morning I do so not knowing whether or not he and I will see each other again.  Many people would think that was morbid to think that, but I would rather know that if that would ever happen that my husband knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that his wife truly loved and cared for him and that he would always carry that in his heart.

Because I do love him, and if we would die before coming together again, I would rather my last memory of him be that he kissed me that last time and told me that he loved me – not a memory that I took him for granted.
