I am someone who loves to shop over the internet. I have a four year old son who just loves to act up when we are in public. He is an angel at home but when we are out shopping or something he loves to do things like run away and touch everything we pass. This is the main reason I began internet shopping I can get many of the things I need and I don’t have to worry about my son getting lost or hurt in the stores. As an extra bonus I get points for shopping at Walmart.com because they are one of the shopping earning sites at Memolink.com.
HOME PAGE
When you first log onto the site the top of the page looks like many other shopping web sites. At the top of the you will see a link for the home page, help, shopping cart and account links. Then you will find product categories listed:
Electronics
Photo
Video Games
Toys
Gifts
Jewelry
Home & Garden
Sports
Movies
Books
Music.
Below the categories you will usually find an ad for whatever season it is. Like right now (January 28) if you were to go to the site you would find valentines day items, and some special products with special pricing. If you look directly to the right of that area you will find a place to sign up for the newsletter that covers specials etc. Then you will find the best button of all located right underneath that, The Clearance Button. This is where you can find some really great items at some really great prices. I like to shop for toys in this section. I have gotten some deals worth buying in advance in this section. Directly below that you will find out how to access Walmart Connect Internet Service. You will then find a little bit of name brand advertising below that. There is also a gift registry and a link to get to Sam’sClub.com.
They also have a photo gift service where you can have your photos made into gifts such as photo mugs and mouse pads. Walmart even has its own Travel agency: Walmart Vacations, which is for the most part cruises.
If you are interested in Walmart as an investment or as someone who just has interest in those sort of things they also offer Walmart News, Investor relations, and Company information on the home page. You will also find information for jobs at Walmart.
Special Services
There are some special services that it may be nice to be aware of. You can sign up to have emails sent to you when there are special promotions.
You can choose to have your packages gift wrapped. This service costs $4.47, which I think is pretty high, no thanks I’ll do it myself. This service does include having a gift message sent and this does not cost you any thing extra.
Another service offered is shipping tracking. This is if you pay extra for priorty or express shipping. A confirmation is also sent within 24 hours of your purchase, and you can cancel your order without a lot of hassle as long as they have not already sent it out.
Of course there are store locators that you can enter a zip code and they will tell you the stores that are closest to your location. This is helpful if you are vacationing somewhere you can go to your favorite map site and print out a map from your hotel etc. to the nearest Walmart. This is a great thing to have along because you never know what kind of little emergencies you might have while on vacation, and you don’t want to have to pay tourist prices.
Another benefit of course is that I earn points for shopping there through Memolink and they are not the only points site that offers points for shopping at Walmart.com.
There is also some kind of photo service but I have not used it so I would rather not comment on it.
These are just services that I am aware of there are probably more.
Shipping Charges
This is the thing that will bite you in the butt about shopping on line. You think you have this great deal, and then it comes times for the shipping charges to be added on to your cost and a lot of the time you end up paying more than you would if you went out shopping. You have to decide whether the convenience of shopping from home is worth the extra money. Sometimes you can find e-tailers that offer promotion free shipping, I love it when that happens. I have yet to see it happen on Walmart.com though. I am not saying that it has never happened, I am just saying that I have never seen it happen. Walmart.com’s shipping prices are average, and by average I mean similar to other e-tailers and still more than I want to pay. I was recently going to purchase a Leap Frog Pad Learning book for my daughter and it was going to cost me $6.11 for standard mail. I am sorry but for that kind of money I will drive to the store and pick it up myself.
My Personal Experience With Walmart.com
I have personally ordered from them about 5 times, and for the most part have been very satisfied. The main problem I have had with them is that they seem to be out of many items when you go to order them. This can be pretty frustrating.
Most of the items I have ordered have come in about 5 days. There was one time when it took over a week though. The items have been packaged very nicely and had big air pillows inside the boxes to protect the items. I have yet to have anything arrive broken.
So I can say that over all I have had good experiences with Walmart.com. If you know you have something coming up and you need to purchase a gift etc. I suggest checking into Walmart.com, check the prices and then check to see how much it will cost to ship that item, you may find it worth your while.
