The Bottom Line The sword ceremony.
"Damn it damn it damn it damn it!" Lisa shouted as she paced back and forth. She had received a fax from Sal that was making her very angry needless to say. Lori came out of the bedroom to see what all the commotion was about. "What the hell is going on in here?" Lori said. "What's wrong? You really wanna know?! You really wanna know?!" "Well I thought that's what questions were for." "That go*damn son of a b*tch sold the plane!" "What are you so mad about, you let him have the plane." "We had a stipulation in the contract of sale that he not sell the plane unless he had my permission which really meant I got the plane back." "Why would you want the piece of junk? You've got three new planes. You scanned the world over to find the blueprints of a 1972 L1011 heavy and you had three planes made out of those blueprints because you liked the ghost story of flight 401. What the hell is wrong with you?" Lisa sat down on the sofa with the letter crinkled in her hand. "I don't want that son of a b1tch to control me." "He's not controlling you, he just sold the plane. They probably need the money. You have enough money to buy and sell Bill Gates ten times over." "The plane had sentimental value and at the time I was feeling all warm and fuzzy after reaching acceptance." "Well, you reminence about acceptance. I have four girls to help get ready for their brother's sword ceremony. Let me know when you're ready to go. Oh and by the way," Lori said as she walked towards the bedroom. "Will Greg be there?" "YES!" Lisa yelled. Everyone sat down on the floor in the dimly lit room. The only thing that shed any light was the many candles that were lit around the room. Lisa sat by Bun Pei with Lori on the other side. Greg sat next to Lisa and the eight children completed the circle. They were all dressed in kimono like outfits. Bun Pei called for Michael to come forward and kneel in front of him. He said a blessing over Michael as he put his hands on his shoulders. He spoke Japanese through the whole blessing. Then he reached behind him and pulled out a satin pouch that was covered in red. He laid it in front of himself and Michael. He pulled out one of the three shiny swords. The one he pulled out was black with gold trim. Michael's name was engraved on the side of the sheath in Japanese in fitting with tradition. He handed the sword to Michael, one hand above the hilt and one hand above the sword tip. As Michael put his hands around it Bun Pei whispered another blessing in Japanese. Then Bun Pei let go the the sword and it was Michael's. He did the same with the wakasashi and the tonto. Michael was very proud as he carefully placed all of the swords back in the pouch. He went back and took his seat. When Bun Pei called Heydan's name Lisa soul just about left her body, she was so surprised. One by one all over her children received their swords. Greg jokingly put his hand on Lisa's and said "Don't worry there are plenty of Dr's here in the room to help you." The whole ceremony made Lisa completely forget about the plane incident. As everybody got to their feet a figure that was lurking in the darkness left quietly. Everyone was laughing and hugging each other and telling each other how proud they were. This made the figure's exit all the more unnoticed except for Greg who remained silent. It was his way. He just couldn't miss a thing. |
