Dealing With Tough Times In School: Feeling Stressed? Let Loose!

The Bottom Line ... keep on livin' the good life.

My daughter graduated from St Joseph's College of Maine, 2009 with a Communications degree. To help bring in some extra needed dollars (it paid for her boarding) she worked as an RA (Resident Adviser) in her senior year. Jenn was dedicated to the task and the students under her ward.

Our hearts were shattered when she was suddenly taken from us in a car/truck accident earlier this year. On a positive note, in the following weeks we learned more about our daughter than we ever expected to hear from both classmates and dear friends of hers. She affected many people in an upbeat and feel good way.

One evening I was going through some of her college effects and found a pamphlet she wrote. I imagine she posted it for Freshman and other students in her building. It refers to how release stress from the life of a college students life in St Joe's of Windham, Maine.

I believe it opens a small window into Jenn's attitude toward life and how to best make it through those more difficult college days and nights..

FEELING STRESSED? LET LOOSE!

Put in some tunes. Enya will make you fly. Eminem will make you do that gangster head nod. Elvis will make you groooooove.

Read a book or magazine. (I wrote one, read mine) Or take a book out from the library. I always dread going there. That painting of the skinny-headed man with that skinny beard scares me. But then I remember, free movies and free books and nice couches!

Take a walk. The lake is so gorgeous and underrated.
Or check out the garden across the street by the red barn.
Or go explore the ropes course behind St Joe's Hall. But don't fall.

Go on an adventure. There are a ton of winding roads to explore in Standish/Windham and beyond. I've found abandoned refrigerators, covered bridges and cows on some of my adventures.

See a movie. Windham Theaters is only $5.50 in the morning/afternoon. That means you can buy some yummmmmmmy candy too! (Also at the Windham cinemas: Long-haired, high-school boys - if that's your thing.)

Chill out with my main man, Jesus. He'll listen to your shenanigans, can keep a secret, is always awake and has good jokes. (He's currently looking for roommates for next year...if you're interested.)

Write, You don't have to be a poet or Mr. Webster. Just get your thoughts and feelings out on paper. It'll help make sense of things.

Close your eyes and take a deep breath. It's gonna be all right. This is college.

Mistakes are allowed. Just learn from them and keep on livin' the good life.

Love, Jenn
