About Me: BeOS Junkie. DDR Junkie. Computer Junkie.

Once Rocked, Now Rolled

Written: Jan 31 '02
Pros:Great Support, decent addons and features for the card
Cons:TOO EXPENSIVE. Better stuff out there.
The Bottom Line: Too Old, too big, too expensive. All-in-all, not worth the dough

Quite frankly, I've been using Sound Blaster stuff for years. I still have a computer that uses a SB16. Now, I have an Audigy *DROOL* and I LOVE IT.

But, graphics wise, after the TNT2, Creative dropped off in the marked, releasing weaker products than most, and not using the best of the chipsets out there. Case in point: the annihlator.

In essence, the product comes with everything you can possibly imagine, as well as the high price-tag.

You got your TV-Out, which is nice, I suppose, if you have one MONSTEROUS TV that you want to put this thing on, which I don't.

You got massive software, but that doesn't matter, because new, and better software is always released, IE Drivers, which NVidia is bad about releasing a new driver the day after you buy a new card... uuugh. =)

Then, you got your amazingly huge Heatsink, which somehow isn't enough, so they put a fan on there, adding who knows how many dB to your cases output. Not only that, the heat this thing produces is astounding. The guy I know that had one upped the cooling on is simply so it would run a little more stable, which, now, it does, but I might add he slighly overclocked it, which is allowed under the drivers, one of the saving graces of the card.

After all that, it comes down to technology: You got bigger and better things, what with the new release of the GeForce 4MX, which is in the new Mac, but should soon be in PCs everywhere.

If gaming is your bag, and you want to buy something old, buy this, but otherwise, don't waste your time/money.
