Reviews That I ValueOct 27 '10 (Updated Oct 28 '10) Write an essay on this topic.

The Bottom Line Epinions' pages load fast and the site is easy to navigate, but caveat emptor on some of the reviews, since the reviewers don't always own the products they review.
I like reading reviews here at epinions.com. The web pages here load really fast compared to many sites I visit. Some sites are so slow at displaying their content I wonder why I bothered to pay for high-speed internet service. The fact that epinions is fast and easy to navigate gives them a huge advantage. It is very pleasant for me as a consumer to read reviews that don't lock up my computer and force me to press the restart button. I prefer reviews written by people who actually own the product they're reviewing. If someone actually puts their money where their mouth is, that tells me a lot. By contrast, if someone writes hundreds of digital camera reviews or hundreds of car/truck reviews, I think that must be great for them because they earn income. But from my point of view it sucks! If you write... say...100 reviews about cameras, I have to figure out which camera you thought enough of to actually purchase. I am not interested in your enthusiastic reviews of cameras you did not purchase. I figure if you didn't buy those cameras, why should I? The one you bought and rated highly is the only product I am interested in reading about. Naturally I am not interested in any product you rated one or two stars, whether or not you own it. In conclusion, if you write lots of reviews about one kind of product, it would be helpful if you could write a little blurb on your profile page. Perhaps something like this: "Here is the review of the...(fill in the blank)...that I actually own. The other 1000 reviews I did for the income. Thanks for reading!" |
