Pros:Great teamplay game, very strategic, lots of fun.
Cons:It will keep you awake all night.
The Bottom Line: The best multiplayer game I have ever played, and its FREE with Half-Life! One more reason to pick up the excellent Half-Life.

Team Fortress Classic, or TFC, is a remake of an old quake mod by the name of, surprise, Team Fortress. This is THE game to play if you are into team based games. Players choose from 9 different classes(10 if you count one available in only a couple of maps), which all have different ability, and are vital for the team to survive.

Gameplay
This is where TFC shines. There are many different official game modes for TFC, along with countless others created by users. Some of the modes included with TFC are Capture the Flag, Assassination, Command Zone Control, and several others that have to be played to be explained.

The 9 classes that you can choose from are:
1)Soldier - He is a basic grunt with a rocket launcher. Important for both offense and defense. Fairly slow moving.
2)Demoman - Uses grenades, grenade launchers, and detpacks to kill people. Essential for a few maps, where he can destroy parts of the map to help your team get into the enemy base easier.
3)Medic - Fast moving class that has the ability to heal his own team and cure them, or poison enemy team members.
4)Heavy Weapons Guy - A large slow moving class that has heavy firepower.
5)Sniper - Can fire a shot that can kill any class when charged completely if you shoot the enemy in the head. Great at taking out enemies from a distance. Red dot from sniper rifle can give away his position, and he does not have much health or armor.
6)Engineer - Can build sentry guns that can fire bullets or rockets for defense. There are 3 levels of sentry guns, each more powerful than the one before it. He can have one sentry gun at a time however. Can use EMP grenades to make all explosive weapons or ammo explode in its blast radius. Does not have a powerful gun, or much health/armor.
7)Spy - Has the ability to disguise as any class and any team, and can infiltrate the enemies base to either capture their flag, take out a key opponent, or report information about defensive positions. Can backstab people to deal a lot of damage, quickly killing the opponent. Can also feign death to pretend he is dead. Very weak if you cannot attack from behind, and will be killed quickly.
8)Scout - Fastest class that is really good at running past enemies to get to their flag. Very weak armor/health and weapons.
9)Pyro - Has a flamethrower that he can use to set enemies on fire.

The maps are all well designed, and let each class use its abilities greatly. My personal favorite map, The Hunted, puts one team of snipers against "the president" and his body guards. The president tries to escape to a jeep at the end of the level, by going down one of many different paths, while the snipers have to try to take him out.

Unlike most fast paced games today, you almost always have a chance to respond to attacks. Snipers show a red dot, which warns you of their presence, rockets travel slowly, giving players a chance to avoid them. You can tell if someone is a spy if you are very observant, and most other weapons are not fatal immediately.

If you join a good clan, this can be the best multiplayer game possible. If the clan works well together, an average team can pull off surprising maneuvers to catch their opponents off guard, and easily defeat a team of excellent players who are all playing by themselves, instead of as a team.

Graphics
There are two sets of models that you can choose from. The newer default ones that look much more realistic, or my favorite, the older cartoony ones. Both look excellent in my opinion, but are still outdated by today's standards.

Sound
The sound is excellent in TFC is excellent. It allows you to know where your enemies are if you are observant, and it allows you to know what is going on around you. The sound effects for each weapon and class are unique, so you can tell if a spy is trying to backstab you, or if a HW Guy is warming up his chaingun.
