I used Wine.com to purchase of a $200.00 bottle of Cristal champagne. I must say it was not a great experience. I bought this bottle as a surprise gift for her birthday. It was her birthday and she always drinks champagne. As such, this was her holy grail.
This was my first purchase at Wine.com. It was noted at check out that you might want to send it to a business address since the package required a signature (alcohol) from someone over 21 and could not be left. So I used my business address. I paid using a debit card and provided a shipping date at least 7 days off, so no rush required.
The next day, I received a call from Wine.com. I was in the shower, but saw who called on my caller ID. They didn't leave a message, so I called them to see if there was a problem with my Order. I was told that since I was a new customer, they were just confriming it was a legit order? Good thing I got the call since it would have probably blown the surprise if my wife saw the call on the caller ID log and she called them back! I also checked my bank account and saw that the charge was already being processed.
I went into work and was greeted by a staff member asking who the cristal was for? She stated that someone from Wine.com called to confirm if she knew me and if the business address was legit? Then she stated that the caller from Wine.com wanted to check since it was an order for a bottle of cristal.
This kind of put me in a rough spot since I was working on going into my boss and asking for a raise. However, it's kind of hard to cry poverty after everyone knows I'm ordering $200.00 bottles of champagne.
I guess this is the first order of cristal they sold because they seem to be calling everyone in creation to confirm if the order was legit! Please note, my order was not requested for at least another 7 days, and the debit card was alreay showing the charge as being paid, so there was plenty of time for Wine.com to ensure payment was in their pocket before shipping.
I received the shipment quickly and it was well packed. I called and voiced my concerns to Wine.Com, but they used this as a good topic for a future customer service training session, but did nothing to make up for their breach of confidentiality and loose lips!
Based on this experience, I would pass on recommend that you try someone else.
