Cons: There is a whole list of them in the article.
The Bottom Line: I don't know if Dish Network is any better, but maybe if Directv keeps it up, I'll find out.

| rainsjuls's Full Review: RCA DTC100 DIRECTV System |
In Las Vegas we had Cox Cable service. When we moved to Utah in November, cable service is one thing Utah doesn't have.
My husband and I went on-line and compared prices. We looked into Dish Network, and Directv.
Now you have to go to a store like Walmart, Radio Shack, or a satellite store to get the satellite itself. You can also have the company mail it to you. Last, there is having the company bring the equipment to you and install it.
After looking into Dish Network and Directv, we decided to go with Directv. Why, you ask?? Dish Network wanted 199.00$ up front. They said it would be two week before someone could come out to set it up.
Directv wanted 49.00$ and said they could have someone out within 2 days.
Even though they could put it in, my husbands father had installed his in the past and told Jake (my husband) that they could do it themselves.
Sure enough my husband and father-in-law had it up and running in an hour. (After calling Directv to activate it).
Now I can't tell you all the ins and outs of installing this thing, but I did watch a few times during the hour and it seemed pretty basic. You need a steady pole, if you don't want this thing attached to the side of your house. (which I didn't, I think it looks tacky, then again having it attached to a pole looks tacky too.) You have to have it aimed in the right direction depending on where you live, then you turn on your inside box and check your pitch. Pitch means, how close you are to pointing it to the satellite hiding in space somewhere. Then you just move the satellite a little this way and that way until the box tells you have it.
When you are on the phone activating your service, you must tell them what package you want. Directv has 6 to choose from.
SELECT CHOICE: This one is a striped down version. 21.99$ a month. No movie channels, no outdoors channels, I guess if you never watch T.V. but want to have a satellite this is perfect. Even though you don't get the movie channels, you only get about half of the basic channel.
TOTAL CHOICE: 31.99$ Again no movie Channels, but you do get all the basic channels, like TLC, MTV 1 and 2. All the Disney and Nick channels, (very important with children) Food channel, and all CNN channels.
TOTAL CHOICE STARZ!: 41.99$ You get all the basic channels, plus 8 Encore channels, and 4 Starz movie channels.
TOTAL CHOICE SHOWTIME: 46.99$ All basic channels, plus 5 Showtime channels, and 2 The Movie Channels (east and west).
TOTAL CHOICE HBO: 49.99$ All basic channels, plus 7 HBO channels.
TOTAL CHOICE PLATINUM:
Then there is the cream of the crop for only!!!!! 82.99$. Only?? Ya, right. Almost double the price of all the other choices, you get every channel they have. All movie channels, all basic channels, and there are 2 channels you can only with this package. The Golf Channel, and Fox Sports World. (Sorry, there was no way I was getting this package. I don't watch T.V. that much!!)
THE LITTLE EXTRA'S
For local channels 5.00$ extra a month.
For the Family Pack, which is just more kid channels like, Boomerang and PBS KIDS, 5.00$ extra.
Sports Pack, for all those great sports channels, 5.00$ extra.
The Remote:
Really easy to use!! Each button tells you what to do.
Browsing the channels, is a little difficult to do. I find myself in area's I didn't mean to go to. It will take time and anger to get use to it.
My Experience with Directv so far, has had it's ups and downs. When we first ordered our service. We ordered TOTAL CHOICE HBO, this one because when we were in Vegas, we watched the HBO channels more then the other movie channels.
After two weeks I had noticed I hadn't watched HBO at all, so I called Directv and canceled it. I told them I just wanted TOTAL CHOICE. As long as I had USA, TNN, Disney, and Nick I was happy. I got my bank statement in the mail a couple of weeks later and there was 60.00$ taken out from Directv!! I called them right away just to find out, it was a cancellation fee. WHAT!!?? I ask. The lady on the other end of the phone explained that we were under a one year contract for the HBO package, and when you cancel early there is a cancellation fee. I explained in a tight voice, that no one told me that, not when I ordered the package, and not when I canceled the package. She said, "well they should have, Miss." I said, "You think??" (I think I would remember something like that.)
Well there was nothing I could do about that now. So I let it go. Contract!! I ordered it over the phone!! I wasn't told about a contract. OK I am still trying to get over it.
When calling Directv about anything can be a On Hold nightmare. After have the little voice tell you several times, what number to push to get where you want to be, you wait and wait and wait and wait. One time on a Tuesday afternoon I was on hold for an hour!! That was when I wanted to order the local channels. I had realized I need them to watch Friends, and ER.
SO over all the prices are not too bad, as long as you don't want all the extra's. Real easy to install yourself. Installation is free if you are all thumbs. Just don't try calling them if your in a hurry.
Like I said earlier, we have only had this since November. It hasn't been a walk in the park, but I am going to stick it out until they push me over the edge.
