STAY FAR AWAY!
I placed four orders on Kmart.com within a few days. Two were cancelled and I was told that the items were not in stock, even though at the time I ordered, the time I was told the order was cancelled, and at the time of this writting, they all say in stock on Kmart.com. Customer service tells me that they don't charge the card for the order until it ships but this isn't the case since I can clearly see the funds on hold with my bank. I also questioned customer service as to why my order was canceled for out of stock items if they still show in stock online and I was told that a website isn't a real time inventory system. That's completly bogus since some websites can tell you there are "Only 5 Left In Stock!" to urge you to make your purchase before they are sold out. The fact is that the Kmart website is just so horrible that they don't bother to update the site to say if an item is in stock or not. I then expressed my frustration over how inconvenient it is to have $600 tied up and on hold with the bank for orders that never should have been charged at all with the item being out of stock. If the website inventory were more efficient, or efficient at all, this type of problem would be kept to a minimum. However, with the webiste being as horribly maintained as it is this must be happening to quite a few people. The customer service rep then tried to blame my bank by saying Kmart refunded the payment immediantly but that my bank may take 3-5 business days to process it. Well they didn't know that I actually work for my bank and I know how things work. I let them know that kmart canceling the order on their end doesn't notify the bank of anything. The only thing the bank knows is the transaction was authorized and so the funds were put on hold. The reason it takes 3-5 business days for the hold to release is because the bank is obligated to give a business 5 business days to process and complete and electronic transaction and post it to the customers account. If that isn't done in the designated time frame then the hold is released and the money goes back into my available balance. I stated that this situation wouldn't even be a reality if the site was better run. The rep then just simply said "Thank You for contacting us today about your shopping needs". In other words "I have no answer for you, or defense for the horrible website, but I'm done talking to you." Worst web shopping experience I've ever had. I wouldn't place another order if they were selling gold bars on clearance with free shipping.
