Graphic Novels Bust-Out (Or Write-off) Announcement

The Bottom Line Thanks, everybody, for your great entries!

Hey, I thought it might be fun to have a write-off of just graphic novels, especially translated French ones, because I've recently been really enjoying Joann Sfar's novels. I've also enjoyed reading reviews of the late Rene Goscinny's novels by epinionater texas-swede who is hosting this write-off with me, but I'm not sure if they're graphic novels or comic books. I found reference on his amazon.com biography as to his books being both.

In 1959 the magazine "Pilote" was launched. Goscinny found his place in the
editorial team among some of his faithful friends from World
Press. The aim of "Pilote" was to change radically the way that the
graphic novel ("the BD") would be perceived in France, and competed
with "Tintin" and "Spirou" magazines on their own territories
.

These two authors have so many wonderful books between them, for kids and young adults, that the write-off could just include their books. You might also check out Emmanuel Guibert and Lewis Trondheim who have collaborated with Sfar. Amazon.com has some interesting graphic novels in their top ten list of 2010, such as The Art of Jaimie Hernandez and X'ed Out by Charles Burns. There's a lot to choose from. Graphic novels are becoming more and more popular, but I only recently started enjoying them and some readers have never tried them.

This write-off is a challenge for those of you who have never read one or given them much of a chance. Maybe you could explore the history of graphic novels and how they're different from comic books. You could pair up with another epinionater to challenge each other with novels you choose or just join in if you're a new member. If you can't find the title in the epinions' database, you can fill out a SAP form with Books Cls pestyside or dramastef, then send me or texas-swede the review link to our comments' section. Also please link your review to this or texas-swede's announcement where entry links will be posted.
