Dear would-be cell phone owner:
I do not recommend starting off your cell phone experience with Verizon Wireless. My Father and I signed up with Verizon over a year and a half ago and since then there have been nothing but problems. My Father's plan included voicemail, 30 free minutes, and an extended local calling range; my plan was similar except that I opted for free weeknights instead of voicemail. Within one week the voicemail was deactivated from my Father's phone, when he called about this they argued that he never had voicemail and it would be $5 per month. He informed them that it was included in his contract and they immediately "found" that, ah indeed he did have voicemail included and it was reactivated. Again after about a week it ceased to work. He finally called again after about a year and asked them to fix his voicemail again they told him he didn't have voicemail, and again he told them that--yes--he was supposed to have voicemail and he had the contract to prove it. They again apologized and said it would be reactivated. It has not been reactivated. My experience with Verizon took a much different route. At first I was quite content with them, my phone worked, I had free weeknights, and I even had my free 30 minutes--then I moved. I moved from Rochester, NY to NY, NY. I asked prior to my move how I was supposed to transfer locations. I was told that I could only do it once I had moved to NYC and then I had to go to an accredited Verizon dealer and they could transfer my phone to the NYC area. After I arrived in NYC I did as I was told, but I was told by my accredited Verizon dealer that I had to call customer service and they would take care of it. I did just that. The customer service representative seemed very helpful, she told me that I had called the wrong place and that I needed another department. She transferred me to said department and after about ten minutes she came back on the line and told me it would be about 20 more minutes and that she would take care of the information for me. She took down my name, my cell phone number, new location and old location. My phone was never transferred, it still has the old location. I finally gave it to my Mother, because at least someone could use it. I have less than six months until my contract runs out and I will not be renewing it.
