The Bottom Line Ever wondered about what lies beyond this realm? Study Luke 16. This will no longer be "filed away information," but vital knowledge to instruct and direct one's LIFE by!
My pastor elaborated on the story in Luke chapter 16 about Lazarus and the rich man today. Lazarus was a leper who would try to "catch" the crumbs from the rich man's plate. As if that wasn't bad enough, dogs would come and lick his open sores. It so happened that they both died on the same day. The rich man was in Hades, being tormented-but not CONSUMED-by flames. He saw Lazarus, afar off, in the bosom of Abraham, being led into Heaven ("And in Hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.") The rich man begged Abraham to allow Lazarus to dip his finger in the water to cool his tongue, "For I am tormented in this flame." But Abraham said,"Remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedest good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented." "And beside all this, between us and you is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence." The rich man begged Abraham to allow Lazarus to go back and warn his 5 brothers of their impending fate. Abraham said,"If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." This is not a parable. Once passing from this realm, we will be possessed of all of our senses. We will either be in Heaven, or in eternal torment (Hell). In Heaven, there will be no remembrance of anything that would bring us sorrow. Heaven and hell are in plain view of each other, but unreachable. Torment is worsened by being able to see paradise. If one is in "unbearable pain" and at death's door in the hospital, just wishing to pass on for the sake of "relief," they would trade ANYTHING to go BACK to the hospital (no matter HOW bad they'd been treated) if they had not prepared themselves for salvation! That's something to REALLY think about when we consider our unsaved loved ones, and our responsibility as Christians. Today, that became "utterly clear" to me, and I progressed from understanding this "academically," to taking it "graphically," and "to heart." No man knows the day or the hour. Have you accepted Jesus in your heart, truly repented, and is everything you're doing pleasing to Him? In the final analysis, my only concern is "is my name written in the Book of Life." |
