I've been a Costco member for several years and love the store for quality product selection and excellent service. So naturally when I heard about the auto buying program I was expecting same type of service and integrity. This was a mistake! This program offers no benefit compared to going to a car dealer and haggling the price myself. The mistake I made was I trusted that Costco would have done all the prep work to minimize the negotiations so I can show up and buy the car if the price is right. Anyway I showed up at the dealer and told the car salesman I was a Costco member. He acknowledged but I can see it meant very little to him. I went through all the hassles of negotiating price, options and finance. The sales guy pulled all the tricks that I've seen in my three previous car buying experience. I chose to use the Costco program to aviod this predictably unpleasant car buying experience I've grown accustomed to. The ad for this program suggests using the program makes car buying easy and almost fun. The ad must be written by same people who enjoy colonoscopy. Also I told Costco customer rep about my less than perfect car buying experience, the rep said "I'm sorry about that. We'll tell the dealer not to do it again." and that was it. Maybe I'll find out if the problem has been corrected in 5 or 6 years. I'd like to tell Costco that People don't buy cars every day. It's a big purchase to most people which has a big financial impact. Please take it more seriously.
