I should have checked the reviews for this vendor before I placed my order (but then I've never had a bad experience ordering items online - except once on eBay). And, when I looked them up online a few days after I placed the order, I noticed that the reviews from people who had ordered from Lane (the bulk of my order was 2 Cedar chests from Lane) were for the most part good - items were received mostly in a timely manner, and were as described. So, I decided to give the vendor the benefit of the doubt and let things stand. Anyway, here is my story: An order was placed on May 1, 2011 for the following items: BRADFORD PLACE TV STAND by Inspirations by Broyhill; BRANTLEY CHERRY CEDAR CHEST by Lane; and BELLA CHERRY CEDAR CHEST by Lane. I received the BRADFORD PLACE TV STAND on May 9, 2011.
With regard to the remaining items, I was informed on May 4, 2011, that they would be delivered within 4-6 weeks. On June 13, 2011, I was informed that the items would require a further 2 weeks to be delivered. On June 29, 2011, I cancelled via telephone my order on account of the extraordinary delay in fulfilling the order. I was informed at that time, that I would receive my refund within 2 weeks of the order being cancelled (Why it takes them so long to give me my refund after they have cancelled my order I do not understand, but I decided to keep things smooth and not question their practices as long as I got my money back). I received an email confirmation that my order was cancelled on July 4, 2011. I have yet to receive the refund on the items not received. When I called customer service on July 18, 2011, I was informed that no refund has been issued to my account. I was told that the owners were not around for me to speak with. I have filed a complaint with Paypal, and hope to get my money through their online resolution process.
Update (7/20/2011): I filed a complaint with Paypal on July 18, 2011, only to have them close my complaint because I did not meet their 45 day deadline. So, on July 19, 2011, I called the vendor again, and was promised a refund within 24 hours. I was also given the owner's email address. I emailed him and his wife (whose email was available on my Paypal account), and got no response from them. I filed a claim with AMEX. Called customer service again on July 20, 2011, to check on the status of my refund. Again was told there was no update about my refund. I, again, emailed the owner and the Registered Agent (his wife) of the company of my intent to file legal action if I did not receive my refund by COB today. No response. I called GA's Secretary of State's office, the Attorney General's office, and spoke with the Office of Consumer Protection. I also filed a complaint with the BBB of NE Florida.
Anyway, I was getting ready to fax my complaint to the Office of Consumer Protection, when I decided to make a last ditch attempt by calling the vendor. So, I told the guy that he could either walk down to accounting and make sure I got my refund back, or that I would fax the papers down to the OCP. He puts me on hold and comes back in a few minutes saying that accounting was processing my refund, and I should have it in 30 seconds. And, voila, five minutes later I got my refund (pending with Paypal until July 25, 2011). Paypal assures me that the vendor will not be able to take my money back, and that my credit card will be refunded on the 25th. All this hassle to get back what was legitimately mine.
