Sears on-line offers a “matching price” deal they do NOT honor. This is what they print.
"If you find a lower price (including shipping, handling and delivery) on an identical branded item currently available for sale and delivery in your area from an established online retailer, Sears will match that total price at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase. Just print the ordering page, including shipping, handling and delivery, and bring it to your Sears store at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase. If you are purchasing online, email the information to order@sears.com.”
I sent them the “order page” three times (without my credit card number in the order window) and three times they rejected to honor the matching price. I gave up and PHONED them and they complained how everyone was trying to “rip them off” even explaining a story about a person who put up a web site offering a 1-day only price for a computer at $50 and wanted them to match that price. He informed me that their attorneys were going after that person and blah, blah, blah, complain, complain (hey, at least you have a job).
So I asked him what qualifies as an “approved on-line retailer” and other criteria they do not post on the internet or tell you in their reject e-mails back to potential customers. He stated that as long as:
1. the matching price is around 20-30% of their product price for the exact same item
2. the offer is from an “approved on-line retailer” only found on their list
3. other misc. items that he would not go into.
Well, the order was for a Sony digital camcorder going for $1099 and a matching price for $811, about 27% savings and within their test number one above AND he said it also was from an approved on-line retailer (www.buydig.com) so he said to just resend it with the attention of his manager.
HAAAAA, they rejected it again after waiting 2 days. I gave up (like they want you too) and went over to a local store called Best Buy (www.bestbuy.com) and within 5 minutes they honored the matched price. They also have a 4-year extended warranty for $50 less than the Sears 3 year extended warranty WITH unlimited cleaning etc.
Do what you want but don’t expect a great deal of follow-through, customer service or satisfaction from using Sears on-line orders. It’s a waist of your time and from what they were saying over the phone to me they can’t handle the volume of orders coming in for matching prices so they don’t want to waist their time with your orders either. I have found there are many other places that want your order and offer better service and value.
