Avoid the free trial--it could cost you in the end! Scale worthless.

I am sure that Stamps.com is a great tool for those who mail a lot. But for an everyday user who is looking for a convenient way to get postage without going to the post office, this service is a rather expensive way to get something you normally get for free.
First, be cautious of the "free trial period". To help secure your business, stamps.com signs you up automatically for the $15.99 monthly service, and conveniently sends no email reminders or cancellations. It's not until you start seeing the charges on your bank/credit card statement that you realize you have subscribed.
I tried the free trial and got the free scale (for $10 shipping), and did not have a chance to use it before leaving on a 3-month assignment in another state. Boom--four monthly $15.99 charges before I realized it, and for the $64 I received $45 in free postage.
The scale is a bit of a joke, since it is only useful for their site. It's not a scale that you can use to weigh things BEFORE you mail (e.g., to check weights).
The helpful and friendly customer service representative suggested that one of the many benefits of stamps.com is avoiding the hassle of going to the post office. But since I can order all the stamps I want for a simple $1 mailing fee, I can't justify $16 a month for the same service.
I really can't comment on the value of the service--since I have not used it yet. But I have to give them two thumbs down for the way they lure potential customers in. For that reason alone I am cancelling my subscription and will never be a customer of theirs.
