We ordered a treadmill from Sears.com. Just like Costco, they say you can return any defective product to any Sears store. So, when the treadmill turned out to be badly made and had problems, we packed it all up (100lbs +) and drove off to Sears to return it, with our receipt and a copy of the stated policy. They wouldn't take it back. I spoke to the manager, who couldn't have been ruder or less helpful if she tried. Her view was because the item was something only sold on line it wasn't in her computer and she couldn't take it back. She didn't care that the on-line policy I pointed her to specifically said she had to take the item. I then asked to speak with the district manager since I couldn't believe they would not honor their own clearly stated policy and she wouldn't provide me with that person's name or contact information.
So we then shlepped this 100lbs thing back to our house and began the process of calling the website to schedule a pickup of this thing. Multiple calls with people who don't speak English well, all of whom tried to duck responsibility and not be helpful. 3 weeks later the thing is still in our house and we had to call Visa and put the charges in dispute. What a disgraceful, absurd experience. I will never order anything from Sears.com again, and you shouldn't either.
By contrast, I got a TV a few years from Costco.com. It didn't work but was a model they don't sell in their store. The retail store took it back no problem and were entirely helpful. Hence they get thousands of my dollars every year while Sears.com can go out of business as far as I am concerned.
