Pros: versatile, total plug+play on Mac
Cons: expensive, requires external power supply
The Bottom Line: This is a very slick and impressive device which also looks flash beside your computer. It works perfectly using all sources I have tried and required no installation.

| mutley123's Full Review: Dazzle Multimedia Dazzle Hollywood DV-Bridge (DM22... |
I bought the Hollywood DV Bridge to use at home with my Imac CD-RW which is running MacOS X.
For the Mac there was no software installation to perform (although a Windows CD containing a Dazzle's own digital editing software was supplied).
To install I connected the Hollywood DV to a built in Firewire (1394) port and plugged it in to the mains using the supplied adaptor. The device is then ready to accept input from composite video, s-video or dv video, using a i-link digital camcorder. The inputs are repeated on the back of the unit to allow for play-through of the video signal.
The Mac appears to treat the Hollywood DV just like any digital camcorder. When Apple's iMovie software is launched digitisation from an analogue or dv video source can begin.
The only drawback I can find is that the mode selector is a button, which always defaults play-through mode. Press it once for A to D (analogue to digital), twice for D to A. The device is meant to automatically select - but I always have to push it to select manually. I would have preferred a slider which I could leave in one position.
Another small niggle is the need for a power supply - when the Firewire bus could surely have provided the power and helped make this an ideal portable solution.
It also ships through UK retailers with a considerably higher price than in the US.
