Yes, Gator is convenient. I used to keep all my user id's and passwords in a little notebook in my desk. Boy, that's really secure! I then came upon this little utility and thought I'd give it a try. I was pleased, yet apprehensive at first. Annoyance soon set in with all the goofy pop-up ads. I did find a way to turn some of this junk off, but I was still concerned with the "spyware" aspect of Gator. ZoneAlarm helped me out a lot in that I could disallow Gator from communicating over the net - that was cool. Still, there was a lot of spyware left on my system. I didn't really know if it was somehow sending out little tid-bits about me or not. ZoneAlarm said no, but... you get the point.
If you value your privacy, I'd suggest looking into something other than Gator. I recently ran Ad-aware on my system (after "uninstalling" Gator), and it found tons of junk left over - stuff that should have been deleted by the uninstall. Doesn't that concern you as much as it does me? Why would a company give you a uninstall option only to leave a ton of components (spyware) behind in obscure directories? Makes you wonder... and it made me mad.
For the type of convenience you're looking for without the security, privacy and other risks - take a look at AI RoboForm (I found it on CNet.com) I'm pleased thus far. One of the other issues I had with Gator was the fact that you could not see your passwords. All you saw were the typical *****. With RoboForm, you have one "master" password. Once that's entered (optional by the way) you see everything.
