I questioned that Amazon could manage to move an item through their warehouse and through Dynamex' logistics, deal with Friday afternoon Seattle traffic, and have it to me by 8 pm and I was right. It can't be done. It wasn't so much that I needed the item right away, I can wait a couple days, it was so I could go into the weekend with one less thing to think about.
In the interest of disclosure, there was somebody home at the delivery address all day and into the evening. There was no bad weather, it was a beautiful picture perfect sunny day, yeah even in Seattle, no notifications that there was a problem, ie. truck broke down, I can deal with tangible issues like that as opposed to the unknown. And that's the biggest downside to online ordering, the inability to call up a real person to be reassured that the problem is being rectified. At Amazon, my only choice is to send an email that disappears into oblivion.
Next time, it's UPS all the way, even if I have to pay more. Amazon has always met their estimates via this method because it's a tried and true business plan. I wonder how much actual testing went into the same day offer, which by the way was not guaranteed, no wonder!
A couple years ago there was a big todo about the roll out of this service, even made it to the New York Times. I wish reviewers would test test test before singing the praises of these too good to be true offers.
So folks, just pay the extra ten bucks for UPS next day, because it will be the next day anyway.
