Five years ago, a trip to Disneyland inspired me to host a write-off of all things Disney in honor of Mickey Mouse’s 80th birthday. I had so much time writing and reading about one of my favorite topics, it’s become an annual event I look forward to hosting. So in the midst of back to school, new TV season, and the holidays, I hope you’ll take some time to join me in celebrating the magic that can only come from Disney. As always, anything associated with Disney is fair game. Naturally, we’re talking about the movies they’ve released and the theme parks they are most famous for. But it can also extend to books and toys and Christmas ornaments and games and anything you can make work. And don’t forget that Disney owns ABC and Hyperion Publishing, so anything coming from them is fair game. I seem to be the last person to not recognize Marvel as being part of the Disney family. Heck, just trying doing into The Disney Store. It seems the part that isn’t about princesses is about Marvel. So in honor of that, I will be opening up this write-off to things that come from Marvel with two provisions. 1. The item being reviewed must have been produced since Disney bought Marvel in 2009. For example, this year’s Avengers or Amazing Spider-man will work, but the original Spider-Man won’t. 2. For every two Marvel reviews you submit, I would request that you review something more traditionally associated with Disney. We do already have a very popular and successful write-off associated with comics each spring, and I don’t want to take away from that. Plus, I’m not quite ready to consider Marvel Disney yet. I’m getting there – give me time. As always, you can include something with only a passing reference to Disney in it. It’s always amazing to me just how much Disney is part of our culture, and I enjoy spotting those myself. So if you’ve found something, share it. While this is designed to be a celebration of Disney, I do realize not everything Disney has done is worth celebrating. Writing a negative review? If it relates, please submit it. I want honest reviews, and lots of them. Speaking of which, if you have a Writer's Corner piece you wish to share, I'm all ears. Don't forget other write-offs happening right now. Feel free to double or triple dip or however many dips you can make. Some of the possibilities include Write-Off in Honor of Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, Time & Space Write-Off, and 2012 Happy Holidays Write Off. Of course, November will bring us the next installment of Lean n Mean. And if any others pop up, they would certainly be included in this list. This write-off will start on October 1st and end December 31st. That gives you plenty of time to get those reviews written with everything else going on.
