Pros:This is a classic beauty. Newly renovated with the most congenial staff and classy atmosphere.
Cons:None, but if you are looking for a resort atmosphere.. this is not the place.
The Bottom Line: This property is for those who want class and luxury, not Las Vegas excitement or bawdy games. Not for everyone, but certainly a favorite in my book.
I got back last nite from 6 nites at the British Colonial and I couldn't have had a more pleasurable visit.
I've stayed here many times before, but I never tire of it's beauty and luxury.
When I arrived I was greeted by the doorman with "Welcome Home" .. this was a new staff member, so he didn't recognize me from my last visit. ( We are greeted most every time we come inside with this comment, it's very endearing)
There was one person online ahead of me at the front desk. Lemon scented warm towels were waiting near check-in to "freshen up" after the trip.
I arrived at 1pm, and my room was ready and available, all fresh and ready to go.
Our room was on the 4th Floor with a garden view. Beautifully decorated, clean, closet space, British Colonial Furniture with Coffee maker/hairdryer/safe etc. and Neutragena bath products for bathroom amenities.
Since we often hear complaints about the size of the rooms I decided to measure my "Standard" room. The room was 16x24 and the bathroom was 8x10. Not really very small.
The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Each and every one.
We had drinks in Blackbeards Pub each nite before dinner.
Dinner at Portofinos' was very nice. The Patio Grille is always nice for lunch. They server mostly Burgers/Grouper fingers/ salads etc, and they are all fine sitting poolside or on the beach sipping cold drinks.
We danced late nites to Jay Mitchell's band in the Palm Court, a very classy, comfortable lounge with vaulted ceilings and a great view. Service was quick and friendly.
On my final day in Nassau I requested an extended check out and it was immediately granted. Although my flight wasn't until 6pm, I checked out at 2pm, leaving an hour for the staff to freshen my room for the next guest checkin at 3pm since the hotel was full. My baggage was stored by the concierge until it was time for me to leave.
All in all, this hotel is a traditional, grand hotel. The Lobby is exquisite with a huge granite staircase to the 2nd Floor. There is a gym, spa, pool, diving services, kayaks, tour operators and concierge to tend to your needs.
BUT BEWARE, there is no shuffleboard, drinking games, bingo, conga line, or activities director. There is only 7 acres of lush settings, private beachfront on Nassau Harbor and a sense of serenity.
I'll be back in a couple of weeks. I can't wait.
