A delightful diversion

Written: Feb 22 '02
The Bottom Line: It's not Great Art but I would imagine almost any adult would find it interesting, entertaining and well made.

A collection of some of the best character actors and actresses in the UK gather together for a good old fashioned manor house drama. The performances are caricatured, but they are entertaining caricatures, and the social contrasts of the upstairs and downstairs worlds is very well drawn. There is a murder, but it isn't really important - it is just there in order to introduce Stephen Fry as a mildly entertaining comedy detective. There are probably too many different minor characters/red herrings, each with a different crisis to be resolved (or not) but rather than try to follow it all, I recommend you just sit back and let the spectacle flow over you.
