The Super-Mega Online Store with all it's glory is all show and no go as far as I'm concerned. For the following reasons, I give Amazon a big two thumbs down:
Availability/Selection:
While you can find most anything on Amazon.com, it seems that they are trying to cover too many products. More and more products have the status "Available in 1-2 Weeks". This is fine if you are patient, but I've found that the 1-2 weeks can go on for 1-2 months easily. I think they over did it and realized that they couldn't afford to have the huge amount of merchandise at their fingertips for 1-2 day shipment. And as Amazon.com stock plunges, it seems more yet merchandise falls victim to the 1-2 week beast. What this really means is that they don't have it in stock and depending on when their supplier gets around to it, you might get the product someday if you're lucky.
Shipping/Speed:
Overlapping a bit with the previous coments, their shipping-in a word-is high. Don't ever choose to have items ship as available or they will soak you for extra shipping. Choose the 1 shipment option. I guarantee they will ship it in multiple shipments anyway, so save yourself the money. They don't want a stock product sitting there when they could ship immediately and charge your credit card, especially since they are as clueless as anyone else as to when merchandise will apparate from the 1-2 week black hole.
Pricing:
Prices are average to slightly higher. If you are willing to shop around or possibly even venture to your nearest Wal-Mart you can almost certainly get a better price. The complaint I have is the way they try and make themselves look like they are giving stuff away. Regularly $975.00, Now $399, You Save 60%!!!!!! Come on already, this is very insulting to the American consumer who knows damn well about this little game. If there is one thing that really annoys me that is it.
