Interesting Theory. (Reply to this comment)

Dear jedikermit: Your ideas here have a lot of merit. As most of us Americans fail to understand, it is not our overt actions or words which reveal the racism most of us harbor, it is in our assumptions, the casual references, the unintentional remarks, the body language. Hence, the idea that NOSFERATU may be an illustration of Anti-Semitism is a valid one.
I would take it a step or two further. Germany, occupying a central position in Europe, developed a resentment of the Auslander which exists to this day. It was not only the Jewish (often) immigrants who suffered the results of quiet or open resentment but -- by the end of the 19th Century -- Anarchists, Communists, Poles, Gypsies, Seventh Day Adventists, trade unions, etc. All were seen as foreign to "German Culture," many as coming from the East, just as you suggest.
Hitler, again as you suggest, took advantage of these prejudices.
How do you know a pestilential, radical Auslander? You give him a face, a posture, a set of peculiar un-German habits, just as our present leaders in America have identified "The Evil Ones," for their particular purposes.
We must be careful ourselves, from our self-identified central position in the World, not to see ourselves surrounded by un-American enemies.
By the way, some versions of NOSFERATU run 127 minutes, quite long for a silent film, but almost every moment is fascinating. Other reviews of NOSFERATU may be found under DRACULA (1922). Here is the URL of my review:

Your review is excellent.

Great review, Frog; you've given me a reason to rewatch the movie in a new light.
The only thing I'm blanking on is Bremen, and it's going to drive me nuts until I have time to look it up. What else is Bremen famous for? I originally was going to say "that's where the Pied Piper plied his trade," but that (upon further reflection) is Hamlin. Grah! Bremen! Bremen! What happened in Bremen?!
