I received a book from a relative for the holidays, and it was the wrong one. They didn't send any receipt with it and I didn't want to hurt their feelings, so I went to the local B&N store to see what could be done. I went to the customer service desk and told them that it was a gift, I didn't have a receipt, and was there anything that could be done. The man at the customer service desk told me that it was a very specific book and that I would be better off trying to return it at Wal-Mart or Target. I told him that I knew she bought it from B&N online. He again told me that it was a very specific book, there was nothing he could do, and told me to try at Wal-Mart or Target. I asked to see the manager and was told he was busy but I could wait. I waited for about twenty minutes and asked if the manager was available. They told me he had left a few minutes ago. I went home and searched for the book online. The first thing was a link to buy that book on barnesandnoble.com and the second was on amazon. The book also does not appear to be sold at Wal-Mart or Target. I called the customer service number and was given the run-around for about an hour before they agreed to call the manager and arrange to let me exchange the book for store credit, which is what I wanted to do in the first place. I am currently waiting to hear from the manager. The other thing I can't stand about B&N is their minimum 15% mark-up in their stores.
