ON Dec.19, 2011, I got an E-mail from Altrec.com advertising free deliveries for all deliveries in the lower 48 states in time for Christmas. I purchased a winter jacket for my son and because I needed it by December 23, I chose the Express delivery option and paid $26.95 for Fed Ex Express service. I got an E-mail confirming my purchase including the Express delivery, I checked my credit card account and found that the charge was all ready on my account. On Wed Dec. 21, I got another E-mail indicating that it had shipped Fed Ex express, with a Fed Ex tracking number. I checked Fed Ex who could find no record of receiving the package. The next day I checked Fed Ex again and got a message that They had no record of receiving the package. I called Altrec and after checking was told that the package had been shipped USPS ground from the Midwest. This presented an additional problem in that Mail is not delivered anywhere in the area I live in and all residents and business are provided with afree post office box. Altrec knew of this and said that they would attempt to get a hold of the post office to intercept the package. Altrec also reverced the credit card charge for the express charge of $26.95 at that time. Sad to say Fed Ex did finally deliver the package on Tuesday Dec. 27. Unfortunately I had all ready spent most of Dec. 22, driving more than 100 miles trying to find a replacement jacket, which I found late Thursday. After receiving the jacket from Fed X on Tuesday I called Altrec to find how I could return it. They gave me the information after a told them that it was to late to give as a Christmas gift. They gave me an Identification code to pack with the jacket for return. I was told that I would have to pay the cost of returning the jacket. I asked what their E-mails, of which i continued receiving all the way up to Dec. 23 meant by "Fast and Free delivery-we guarantee they'll be 100% satisfied" Their answer was they were not responsible for delayed shipments. In other words the word guarantee meant nothing. I have not opened the package and have contacted my credit card company who are investigating the matter and will not pay them until the issue has been taken care of. I am not concerned with actual cost to ship the item, for me it is an issue of honesty and ethics. Many years ago I was employed in retail sales and we would have done every possible thing to provide our customers with the best shopping experience possible. It is no wonder that many retailers are in financial trouble at this time.
