Failed Expectations

Written: Dec 31 '11 (Updated Dec 31 '11)
Pros:Lightweight
Ease of movement across the floor
Fairly quiet operation
Adequate sized debris holder
Cons:Lengthy charge time
Poor battery life
Need to store on charger
The Bottom Line: Inadequate suction for my needs.  I wouldn't recommend a buy.

As a fan of all other Swiffer products I've used, I was expecting to be quite pleased with this item, as well.  However, it failed to meet those assumptions.  For the price I paid ($38) I probably shouldn't have expected high quality.

While the Swiffer cloths do their usual good job of attracting and picking up dust and pet hairs, etc., I was hoping for adequate suction to pick up crumbs and other minor debris on laminate flooring.  I have a spine injury that makes bending to use a dust pan & broom, or even a Dust Buster, problematic.  From my experience suction with the Swiffer Sweep Vac is extremely poor, even with the vacuum bar in lowest position.  The unit has a difficult time picking up bits of stray cat food near pet dishes, and even has trouble with something as lightweight as dried fir needles.

I was also assuming there would be more usable time with each battery charge, and that it wouldn't always have to be kept plugged in during storage. My broom closet doesn't have an electrical outlet.  For instance, if I use it in the evening to do a general sweep of the kitchen & dining room laminate, I'd better not need to clean up a flour spill the next morning during breakfast.  It takes over 12 hours to come back to full charge.

Color me disappointed and unimpressed.
