Thanks for commenting. Dell really needs to greatly improve on their customer service. All computers have their problems but customer service can make it easier on the consumer or just throw their hands up and say "never again"!.

I had always heard that Dell was the best, and had the best customer support. I guess not. I was thinking of buying almost the same computer you reviewed, but nowt I certainly am not going to. By the way- clever title! Made me laugh...

Dell used to be the industry standard for quality, and they still (unfortunately) are riding high on their reputation. My own experience with Dell is that quality is spotty, and "service" is abysmally bad.

I used to build and service computer labs. Dell computers, new right-out-of-the-box had a failure rate of about 10 percent, with another 5 percent failing in the first month. I am a systems analyst/programmer/tech, and I KNOW when I hear a hard drive failure, or see that a drive doesn't work because the cable was never installed. Dell will stonewall these problems to death, then take months to remedy the problem.

The thing is, when they work, they WORK, so at least 85 percent of Dell owners think they are wonderful - until they need service. My computers are usually the put-parts-together-in-generic-case variety. If I bought a branded computer it would probably be a Gateway. Never a Dell.

If I had written a review shortly after buying it, it would have been a really good product review, but it only took less than 8 months for it to start having problems. Good luck!!!!

I bought a Dell 4100 in December and have been thrilled so far -- I hope your experience is a fluke. I haven't had any problems, so I have no contact with their customer service ... yet.

Good, but scary, review.

This sounds like deja-vu! (my review is same). What's crazy is that there are so- many people that are happy with these computers, and voice it loudly in the first 2-3 months. "Just wait" is what I say...just wait.. ;)
Dell's tech support has pushed my threshold for tolerance over new and strange horizons. I actually 'understand' things like road-rage now. lol

Warranties and rebates usually aren't worth the effort (Reply to this comment)

Although you did lack information about the computer itself, the information you provided was very helpful. Apparently the parts Dell uses aren't incredibly good, as I have had a Packard Bell computer for over 5 years and have never had a problem with the hardware. Yeah...5 years is a long time to keep a computer, but I don't have money. Anyway, I hope your future computer purchases turn out better.
