Re: Please don't beat up on poor synths! (Reply to this comment)

Thank you for commenting and disagreeing! I must admit that I enjoyed TFF when I was a kid. Their videos were some of the first I ever saw on MTV and in retrospect maybe it would have been better to remember them in that light. However I always want to understand betters and understand where other bands got their evidence.
In any case, yes...thank you much.
Shelly.

Please don't beat up on poor synths! (Reply to this comment)
by seerup101
Yes, it's true, I'm a fan of (certain) synths in music. Yes, it's true that synths in music have largely been relegated to the trashheap of history. Yes, it's true that many synth sounds are laughable and don't date at all well. But I disagree with your take on TFF in that there's so much auditory ear candy to revel in that makes me as giddy as a little boy.
Having said that, let me make it clear that I very much respect your strong opinions and your right to express them in the way you choose. Plus your reviewing skills are in great evidence. Besides, It's not such a bad thing to see something I like have the mickey taken out of it - it helps remind me to think through carefully what I like about it.
Maximum respect and agreeing to politely disagree,

I didn't see anything terribly wrong with the review. I see it was updated last year, so maybe I missed the hardcore bashing section. Keep up the good work El Leado >=P

I have an CD of one of these guys after they broke up and the name was retained. It should have been Tear for Fear, I think. It's pretty good.

i came onboard the T4F bus waaaaaay late . . . circa '97 i think . . . and am glad they put this one out . . . about the only one i don't much care for in here is Mother's Talk . . . and weirdly enough, Everybody . . ., which is the only song from them i'd heard too many times before . . .
. . . favorites are Shout, Mad World, I Believe, Laid So Low, Advice For the Young at Heart . . . guess it's not just for longtime fans only as you write, but newcomers to the T4F sound . . . perhaps that's why i got Saturnine Martial & Lunatic . . .
Thank you for contributing Shelley. ...t-žoo

They're gay (Reply to this comment)

I liked your review, good job. All I know of this group comes from mid-80's MTV, and I didn't much care for them then either. They say some things get better with age, but to me, Tears for Fears are just as GAY as ever. LOL.
Good job!

Just loved these guys when I lived in England. (Reply to this comment)
by Susie-34668
I purchased several singles as well as an album of theirs. Only to leave them behind when I came to Florida to live.
They were rated very high in England, and had a huge following.
Brings back good memories.
Thanks,
~Susan~

harsh on one of my all time favorite bands...yikes
The cool parts about Woman in Chains was the video, which was killer, very emotional - and the peaking part is strong. Plus Phil Collins is playing the drums on that one and Oleta Adams did the extremely soulful vocals...that is really the only song that you surprised me on...I think Woman in Chains is a classic of all time...
and Sowing the Seeds, just for your info was a tribute to the Magical Mystery Tour, right down to the video and Beatles like sound effects...but a lot of the other stuff, I have to agree with you about, it is for fans only...
you should check out the Elemental album, it is very interesting stuff...
great job on this though, outstanding
