| tuning's Full Review: Hewlett Packard HP Pavilion Zt1170 (F3380H) PC Not... |
First of all let me say that this is my first laptop I've owned. I've used several, but I finally I bought my own. This is also my first review on epinions. And I must say, while it's a beautiful looking laptop, I don't understand why it goes so slow. I'm not impressed with the performance. Perhaps it's just me. I am 19 and major in Electrical Engineering. I have worked with a lot of systems and this one is really slow for the specs it says it has. When I first got it, it wasn't noticeably slow but eventually I caught on to it, and was like hmm. When I went into system properties in control panel it would show the system clocked at 733mhz. I then downloaded a benchmark program and it also clocked it at 733mhz. It got really frustrating. I then went into msconfig and turned off a bunch of background applications. I notice this laptop comes with a bunch of apps. It helped a bit to disable some. My laptop was moving quickly for a while and then it got slow again.... When I run task manager, by just moving my mouse around, my cpu usage jumps to 50% which is ridiculous. I really don't understand this laptop. When I called HP tech support about my laptop running at 733 they said many people have called about it and that it's actually a glitch in WinXP. This is totally not true. He told me to download the patches from Windows Update. Did that and nothing happened. Has anyone else noticed the system settings continuously clocking the speed at 733? I am on the verge of reformatting for the 3rd time to see if I can get this thing up to speed. I really have this feeling that this system is not performing up to what it says to be. This amd athlon 1ghz with only 384mb is much more faster than my laptop. It seems like it has 64mb ram rather than 512mb. I am really disappointed with my first laptop. I am actually considering taking it back because I think it's defective. That's how bad it is. I give this laptop 3 stars because I get a lot of comments at school on the 15inch XGA clarity and the blue one touch lights. For those complaining about no floppy drive, I don't see a problem with the free mail-in rebate offer for the USB floppy drive when you purchase the ZT1170.

Ok I figured out why this laptop was off to a slow start. The laptop comes with Hewlett Packard diagnostic tools for Windows. In this, you can download the latest BIOS update files. It is VERY important that you do this.. for any HP laptop for that matter. All of a sudden, my laptop had very dramatic increases in speed. It truly runs at 1.13ghz. I feel much more positive about my purchase now.
