My boyfriend lives in Germany and to call him is about $0.80 a minute. I've been relying on phone calls which gave me about $0.15 per minute. I decided to try my luck with priceline and ended up getting a great deal for $0.07 a minute to call him. How it works is that I have to pick a phone from which to call him and enter that number (that's the only designated phone to call him) and I have to enter the phone number that he'll be receiving my calls (again, it's the only phone that he can use). Then, it gives me a phone number (it works much like a phone card) and I think of the PIN. Only, sometimes when I would call him, the connection is bad. Sometimes, he wouldn't be able to hear anything I said much like I was muted. Hey, that's what I get for $0.07 a minute. That's cheaper than calling inter-island in Hawaii!!! When i ran out of minutes, I went to recharge the phone card. when I tried calling him, it said that I was calling a number that was not acceptable. It was extremely hard to find a customer service number and a few of the representatives that I've talked to didn't understand why. It became very stressful. I kept trying to find answers and the reason why I couldn't call him anymore was because they no longer accepted calls to mobile phones. HELLO!!! Someone could have emailed me with that information!!! So, I longer do my long distance through priceline because he doesn't have a regular phone. They did refund my money back into my bank account. Hey... that 1,000 minutes that I got for $80.00 saved me a whole lot of $$$$$$$$ By the way, you know those really annoying calls that try to change your long distance phone calls? I refer THEM to PRICELINE.
Steps to take:
-You need to choose a phone number that you will use to call that certain person from. I believe you could also add additional phone lines for no extra charge.
-Then you need to choose the country that you will be calling to.
-Next, choose the bulk of minutes that will best suite your conversation style. I believe they come as 60, 125, 250, 500, or 1000 minute packages. It also claims that the higher number of minutes you choose, the more you save. -There is also a button that you can click to automatically recharge your minutes when you get to less than a certain amount of minutes (I think it was 30 minutes)
-After that, you need to give your billing information which you need to use a credit card in order to do this.
-Now, it's BIDDING TIME. I just picked a rediculously low price just to test my luck with it. Surprisingly, it worked!!!
-After a few minutes, you would have to go back and check your account which would say whether it's been approved, declined, or still haven't found a company that will accept your offer.
-If you have been approved, it will give you a phone number that works much like a phone card, you'll need a PIN number and you're all set. An extra bonus is that they compare your price to one of the bigger companies which was AT&T for me and I saw that I saved about $750 on long distance!!! Oh.. I think I remember a 1 hour waiting period, or was it a 1 day wait period. It's been a while since I've used priceline.
Another tip would be to select one of the smaller minute groups.. say the 60 minutes, and see how much it's willing to take your offer. If it accepts, and you want to recharge the phone card, then take it maybe a penny or two lower.
Again, they no longer accept calls to a mobile phone. Also, the calls must originate in the USA, and the setup is a bit different if you want to call within the country.
